In an example embodiment, a system comprises a chain of serially coupled nodes, including a central processing node (CPN) and one or more radio communications nodes (RCNs). The CPN couples to a first RCN in the chain via a dielectric waveguide (DWG) link and any further RCNs in the chain are successively connected in serial fashion from the first RCN via further (DWG) links. The CPN generates outbound radio carrier signals that are waveguide-propagated in a downstream direction of the chain, for over-the-air (OTA) by targeted ones of the RCNs, while radio carrier signals received via OTA reception by respective ones of the RCNs are waveguide propagated as inbound radio signals in an upstream direction of the chain, for processing by the CPN. Advantages from he contemplated system include greatly simplified implementation of the RCNs, with lower cost and power consumption. Further, strategic placement of failover CPNs and DWG links provide for continued operation in the face of CPN or DWG link failures.

The detection method implements symbol level correlation, comprising: filtering the radio signal with a plurality of matched filters to obtain a correlation for each OFDM symbol in the synchronization signal, wherein each matched filter provides a correlation with one OFDM symbol in the synchronization signal; delaying and combining the outputs of the plurality of matched filters in a first way to provide a first combined output for the normal cyclic prefix configuration and delaying and combining the outputs of the plurality of matched filters in a second way to provide a second combined output for the extended cyclic prefix configuration; and detecting a correlation peak indicative of the synchronization signal in one of the first or second combined outputs. The present disclosure also relates to a user equipment including the apparatus.

The solution presented herein discloses a method of reducing inter-symbol jitter caused while processing each of a plurality of OFDM symbols in a received signal. For each of the plurality of OFDM symbols, the method comprises receiving a plurality of radio samples produced by a sampling of an OFDM symbol at a reduced sampling rate, where the reduced sampling rate causes inter-symbol jitter between the plurality of OFDM symbols. The method further comprises determining a sample offset corresponding to a symbol number for the OFDM symbol, transforming the samples of the OFDM symbol into a plurality of frequency-domain resource elements, and determining a phase offset for each of the resource elements using the sample offset. The method then reduces the inter-symbol jitter by rotating each resource element using the corresponding phase offset to generate phase-rotated resource elements. Corresponding narrow-band wireless receiver, narrow-band wireless receiver apparatus, jitter compensation circuit and computer program product are also disclosed.

The solution presented herein discloses a method of transmitting first symbols via a transceiver comprising a receiver and a transmitter. The method comprises determining a timing discrepancy between a previous reference timing and a current reference timing. The current reference timing is established responsive to a reduced sampling rate used to process second symbols received by the receiver, where the reduced sampling rate is less than a minimum sampling rate at which an inter-symbol distance between the second symbols can be represented by an integer number of samples. The method further comprises adjusting the current reference timing responsive to the timing discrepancy to generate an adjusted reference timing, and determining an uplink transmission timing responsive to the adjusted reference timing. The method further comprises transmitting the first symbols via the transmitter according to the determined uplink transmission timing. Corresponding transceiver, transceiver apparatus, and computer program product are also disclosed.

The embodiments disclose a method of a wireless communication device adapted to operate in compliance with a first radio access technology in association with a first network and in compliance with a second radio access technology in association with a second network. A carrier aggregation application method is provided of attaining time synchronization to a secondary cell for a wireless communication device usable in a cellular communication network. The method comprises, if a time reference of the secondary cell is unknown to the wireless communication device: setting a preliminary time reference of the secondary cell to equal a time reference of a primary cell of the carrier aggregation application; performing a synchronization signal based detection of the time reference of the secondary cell based on the preliminary time reference and one or more synchronization signals transmitted in the secondary cell; performing preliminary time reference based channel state measurements of the secondary cell based on the preliminary time reference and one or more reference signals transmitted in the secondary cell; setting, based on the synchronization signal based detection, a value of a channel quality indicator to either a nominal value or a value based on the preliminary time reference based channel state measurements; and transmitting a channel state information report comprising the channel quality indicator to the cellular communication network. A method is disclosed of a wireless communication device comprising a radio transceiver and a first radio access control unit adapted to control operation of the wireless communication device in association with a first network node of a first cellular communication network. The method comprises (during use of the radio transceiver by the first radio access control unit) indicating a worse than actual channel condition to the first network node, monitoring a change in code rate of signals transmitted from the first network node in response to the worse than actual channel condition indication, determining a relation between the worse than actual channel condition indication and the code rate change, and determining an offset value based on the determined relation. The offset value is applicable to offset a channel condition indication value to be transmitted to the first network node in association with a gap in the use of the radio transceiver by the first radio access control unit. A technique for selecting a set of radio resources of a cellular telecommunications network for radio resource aggregation in a communication between the telecommunications network and a User Equipment (UE) is provided. As to a method aspect of the technique, a time offset relative to a primary radio resource for each of at least two secondary radio resources is monitored. The primary radio resource and the at least two secondary radio resources are provided by the telecommunications network for radio resource aggregation. Out of the at least two secondary radio resources, a set of radio resources is selected so that the time offsets monitored for the selected secondary radio resources fall within a time window having a width equal to or less than the threshold, if a spread of the monitored time offsets exceeds a threshold.
