A sensor bridge, for use in an Ethernet network in a vehicle, includes a sensor interface, a mapper and a communication processor. The sensor interface is configured to receive sensor data from a sensor installed in the vehicle. The mapper is configured to form mapped sensor data by applying to the sensor data a direct mapping that maps specified parts of the sensor data to corresponding bit positions in one or more Ethernet packets. The communication processor is configured to generate the one or more Ethernet packets including the mapped sensor data, and to transmit the one or more Ethernet packets over the Ethernet network.

Direct encapsulation of sensor data over ethernet

In a vehicular communication network, a processor receives a packet that includes data corresponding to a sensor, the packet being in a first format. The processor reformats the packet in the first format to a second format different than the first format. The reformatting of the packet includes the processor generating an intermediate frame that includes a header in the second format and a payload in the second format, the payload including the data corresponding to the sensor. The processor provides the frame to an Ethernet network interface, which encapsulates the frame in an Ethernet packet. The Ethernet network interface then transmits the Ethernet packet via an Ethernet link.

Communication of sensor data in a motor vehicle communication network

Systems and methods are described for a slave PHY device retransmitting a waking up command to a master PHY device in a low-power mode. After transmitting a wake-up command to the master PHY device, the slave PHY device starts a timer. If the timer reaches a threshold time, the slave device retransmits the wake-up command.

An Ethernet Physical layer (PHY) device includes a PHY interface and PHY circuitry. The PHY interface is configured to connect to a physical link. The PHY circuitry is configured to generate layer-1 frames that carry data for transmission to a peer Ethernet PHY device, to insert among the layer-1 frames one or more management frames that are separate from the layer-1 frames and that are configured to control a General-Purpose Input-Output (GPIO) port associated with the peer Ethernet PHY device, to transmit the layer-1 frames and the inserted management frames, via the PHY interface, to the peer Ethernet PHY device over the physical link, for controlling one or more operations of the GPIO port associated with the peer Ethernet PHY device, and to receive, via the PHY interface, one or more verifications acknowledging that the one or more management frames were received successfully at the peer Ethernet PHY device.

An interface in a communications system includes a physical layer transceiver (PHY) for coupling to a wireline channel medium, and for coupling to a functional device via a single-ended cable. The PHY is an integrated circuit (IC) device having first and second differential input/output (I/O) conductors for coupling to the functional device, an impedance element configured to terminate a first one of the differential I/O conductors to a system ground, a second one of the differential I/O conductors being coupled to the single-ended cable, and a common-mode filter coupled to both of the differential I/O conductors. The PHY may further include a printed circuit board (PCB), with the IC device being mounted on the PCB, the first and second differential I/O conductors being signal traces on the PCB. The single-ended cable may be a coaxial cable.

Common-mode filtering for converting differential signaling to single-ended signaling

An Ethernet Physical Layer (PHY) device includes a link interface and a transceiver. The link interface is configured to connect to a full-duplex wired Ethernet link. The transceiver is configured to receive first Ethernet signals carrying first data at a first data rate over the Ethernet link in a first direction, the first Ethernet signals occupying a first frequency band, and to transmit second Ethernet signals carrying second data at a second data rate different from the first data rate, over the Ethernet link in a second direction that is opposite the first direction, the second Ethernet signals occupying a second frequency band that is different from the first frequency band.

Methods and systems are provided for fault diagnosis in a vehicular communication network. The methods and systems utilize a trained neural network model which is downloaded to a local computer associated with the vehicular communication network of a given vehicle and which applies inputs from the given vehicle to output maintenance recommendations for the given vehicle.

Self-diagnosis for in-vehicle networks

A first communication device performs a handshaking procedure with a second communication device, the handshaking procedure associated with transitioning from an active mode to a low power mode. The first communication device transmits data and/or idle symbols to the second communication device i) after completion of the handshake procedure, and ii) at least until the earlier of a) a time period expiring, and b) determining that the second communication device quieted a transmitter of the second communication device. The first communication device transitions to the low power mode in connection with the handshaking procedure.

A physical layer transceiver assembly includes physical layer transceiver circuitry having an input/output terminal configured for coupling to data channel medium, and an electrostatic discharge protection circuit coupled between the terminal and a ground of the assembly. The electrostatic discharge protection circuit includes a reactive filter network coupled to the terminal and configured to selectively limit current flow through the electrostatic discharge protection circuit, and an electrostatic discharge protection device coupled between the reactive filter network and the ground of the assembly. Where the electrostatic discharge protection device is a snapback device, the reactive filter network is configured to limit current at frequencies that adversely affect the snapback device. One implementation of the reactive filter network is a band-stop filter that limits current in a frequency band including the frequencies that adversely affect the snapback device, and passes current at frequencies above and below the frequency band.

Electrostatic discharge protection apparatus and method for data transceiver

A printed circuit board (PCB) and a method of manufacturing the same is described. The PCB includes a substrate defining a major plane and an integrated electromagnetic interference and compatibility (EMC/EMI) shielding enclosure configured to enclose the substrate. The shielding enclosure includes a metallic top layer deposited on top of the major plane of the substrate so as to envelop an uppermost layer of the substrate, a metallic bottom layer deposited on bottom of the major plane of the substrate so as to envelop a bottommost layer of the substrate, and a metallic side layer formed along a length of one or more edges of the substrate to electrically connect the metallic top layer and the metallic bottom layer.

An Ethernet communication device includes a data interface and circuitry. The data interface is configured for communicating with a neighbor device. The circuitry is configured to exchange Ethernet data frames with the neighbor device over the data interface, wherein successive data frames are separated in time by an Inter-Packet Gap (IPG) having at least a predefined minimal duration, and to further exchange with the neighbor device, over the data interface, during the IPG between Ethernet frames exchanged on the data interface, a wake-up/sleep command that instructs switching between an active mode and a sleep mode.

Ethernet PHY-MAC communication with in-band wake-up/sleep commands

A first serial management interface device includes one or more input/output pins and a controller coupled to the one or more input/output pins. The controller receives a first frame from a second serial management interface device via a first input/output pin and generates a first error code based on the first frame received from the second serial management interface device. The controller receives a second frame from the second serial management interface device via a second input/output pin subsequent to receiving the first frame. The second frame includes a second error code. The controller compares the first error code to the second error code to determine whether first error code and the second error code match.
