The present invention relates to a personal health monitoring system including an implantable sensor and a monitoring device. The present invention further relates to a multiple user health monitoring system including a plurality of such personal health monitoring systems. The present invention further relates to a method of monitoring the biological parameters of at least one user.

Personal health monitoring system, multiple user health monitoring system, and method

A multilayer stack comprises a surface wherein a predetermined region is defined for enclosing a device provided on the multilayer stack, the region being encircled by a welding zone defined on the surface, the welding zone being suitable for being welded by a welding radiation beam to a capping structure. It also comprises a first layer embedded within the multilayer stack, including at least one embedded component suitable for being functionally connected to the device provided on the multilayer stack. It furthermore comprises at least a second layer over the first layer comprising a shielding structure positioned between the at least one component of the first layer and the welding zone defined on the surface, the shielding structure being adapted to limit the welding depth of the welding radiation beam provided on the welding zone.

Weld protection for hermetic wafer-level sealing

An implantable optical sensor () comprising a substrate () and at least one optical microstructure () for evanescent field sensing integrated with the substrate (), the at least one optical microstructure () being positioned to form an optical interaction area () on a part of a surface () of the substrate (), the optical assembly () further comprising a thin protective layer () covering at least the optical interaction area (), the thin protective layer () being in a predetermined material with corrosion-protection characteristics and having a predetermined thickness, so as not to affect the evanescent field sensing.

Implantable optical sensor

An implantable optical sensor comprises a photonic integrated circuit comprising a substrateand an optical microstructureintegrated with the substrate. The optical microstructure is positioned to form an exposed optical interaction areaon a part of a surfaceof the substrate. A cover capis sealed onto a part of the substrateadjacent to the optical interaction areaand by wafer-to-wafer bonding technology or another wafer-level hermetic packaging technique. At least one active componentis positioned in a sealed cavitywhich is formed between the surfaceand the cover cap. The substratecomprises at least one optical feedthrough, which is an embedded waveguide extending from the sealed cavityto the optical interaction area

Implantable optical sensor with hermetically sealed cover cap

A method for testing an optical assembly () which has an optical microstructure () integrated with a substrate (). The optical microstructure () is positioned to form an external optical interaction area () on a part of a surface () of the substrate (). A cover cap () seals at least a part of the surface () of the substrate () adjacent to the optical microstructure () to obtain a sealed cavity (). An optical feedthrough () is integrated in the substrate () to form an external communication path from within the sealed cavity (). The optical feedthrough () allows communication of a physical parameter value which is measured inside the sealed cavity () to outside the sealed cavity (). The physical parameter value is associated with a measure of hermeticity of the sealed cavity ().

Hermeticity testing of an optical assembly

A sensor for sensing a substance such as for example glucose. The sensor is implantable in the body of a living creature. The sensor has a photonic integrated circuit, e.g. silicon-photonics integrated circuit, for spectrally processing radiation interacting with the sample. A continuous monitoring system can also include such a sensor.

Implantable sensor

An integrated waveguide based spectrometer is described. The spectrometer comprises a sensing region for receiving multi-wavelength radiation for irradiating a sample in the sensing region, a wavelength demultiplexing element arranged for capturing said multi-wavelength radiation after interaction with the sample and for providing a number of wavelength demultiplexed radiation outputs or a number of different groups of wavelength demultiplexed radiation outputs, an integrated modulator for differently modulating the different demultiplexed radiation outputs or different groups of demultiplexed radiation outputs, and a multiplexer element for multiplexing the differently modulated demultiplexed radiation outputs or the differently grouped demultiplexed radiation outputs.

Integrated spectrometers with single pixel detector

A system for selectively adiabatically coupling electromagnetic waves from one waveguide to another waveguide is described. It comprises a first waveguide portion and a second waveguide portion having substantially different surface normal cross-sections. Portions thereof are positioned with respect to each other in a coupling region so that under first predetermined environmental conditions coupling of electromagnetic waves between the first waveguide portion and the second waveguide portion can occur and under second predetermined environmental conditions substantially no coupling of electromagnetic waves between the first waveguide portion and the second waveguide portion can occur. The system also comprises a fluid positioning means for selectively positioning at least a first fluid simultaneously overlaying both said first waveguide portion and said second waveguide portion in the coupling region thus selectively inducing first predetermined environmental conditions or second predetermined environmental conditions.

Adiabatic coupler

A sensor is described for sensing a substance such as for example glucose. The sensor is implantable in the body of a living creature. The sensor comprises a photonic integrated circuit, e.g. silicon-photonics, based radiation processor for spectrally processing radiation interacting with the sample. A continuous monitoring system also is described using such a sensor.

The present invention relates to a coupler () for coupling radiation to one optical element. The coupler () comprises a splitter () for splitting a received radiation beam in at least two radiation sub-beams, at least two distinct sub-gratings () adapted for directing radiation sub-beams such that all radiation is coupled out by the coupler into substantially one direction, and a means for guiding () each of the radiation sub-beams between the splitter and a sub-grating ().
