Aspects of the present invention are related to systems, methods and apparatus for digital-marking-surface spatial management of content units and display of content units. Some aspects relate to diagrammatic gestures that invoke content-unit spatial separation on a digital marking surface. Some aspects relate to the generation and display of a transformed view of content units on a digital marking surface.

Digital-marking-surface space and display management

A system and method are presented for docking an actively stabilized platform. The platform includes an active stabilizing mechanism selectively engageable to orient the platform in at least a first axis of rotation. Once the docking procedure is initiated, a docking device engages the platform to prevent rotation in the first axis. When the docking device becomes fixedly engaged with the platform, the active stabilizing mechanism can be disengaged and the platform sustained in a first orientation defined by the first axis of rotation. In addition, the method may sustain the platform aligned in a first spatial position defined by at least two orthogonal axes. Similarly, if the docking device does not provide complete stability for the platform (i.e., engages the platform with a tolerance error), the active stabilizing mechanism can be partially engaged to minimize the tolerance error while minimizing power consumption.

System and method for docking an actively stabilized platform

A computer system and associated method are provided for formulating a search inquiry. A user interface (UI) accepts commands for selecting a first data object, and a display presents the first data object with a top plane as located within a geometric boundary representation of a virtual object-bearing front surface. The UI then accepts commands for selecting a first feature associated with the first data object. The UI next accepts either a flip object command or a flip surface command. In response to the flip command, the display presents a first data object bottom plane, opposite of the first data object top plane. The UI is then able to accept commands for selecting a second feature associated with the first data object, and construct a search inquiry in response to the first data object, the first feature, and the second feature, which is sent to a search engine.

A multi-function display is provided with selectively autonomous secondary modules. A primary device is made up of a central display controller for determining display functions, and at least one docking port. Each docking port selectively connects a SDD to the primary device mechanically, and electrically connects a docked SDD to the central display controller. Each SDD includes a local display screen, and a local display controller for determining local display functions. Each SDD includes a docking port for selectively interfacing to a primary device docking port, and also includes a governor module. The governor module has an interface to determine if the SDD is docked to the primary device. The governor module permits the central display controller to determine local display functions in response to the SDD being docked with the primary device, or permits the local display controller to determine local display functions in response to the SDD not being docked.

Aspects of the present invention are related to systems and methods for scanning a document wherein a scan function is invoked implicitly by a user positioning a document object, or document objects, to be scanned near an active surface of the scanner. According to one aspect of the present invention, the user's intent to scan a document object may be determined by an active-sensing pipeline.

Methods and systems for no-touch scanning

A system and method are provided for color gradient object tracking. A tracking area is illuminated with a chromatic light source. A color value is measured, defined by at least three attributes, reflected from an object in the tracking area, and analyzed with respect to chromatic light source characteristics. A lookup table (LUT) is accessed that cross-references color values to positions in the tracking area, and in response to accessing the LUT, the object position in the tracking area is determined. The LUT is initially built by illuminating the tracking area with the light source. A test object is inserted into the tracking area in a plurality of determined positions, and the reflected color value is measured at each determined position. The color value measurements are correlated to determined positions. As a result, a color gradient can be measured between a first determined position and a second determined position.

An imaging device has an adjustable imaging surface that can be readily enlarged by a user from a first size to a second size and reduced by the user from the second size to the first size to meet imaging requirements. The imaging device thus permits imaging of larger documents than its desktop footprint would conventionally support. For example, when a user of such an imaging device has a full sheet document that requires flatbed scanning, the user can temporarily enlarge the imaging surface from half sheet size to full sheet size and scan the document. Once the user has scanned the document, the user can reduce the imaging surface from the full sheet size to the half sheet size to reduce the desktop footprint of the imaging device.

The instructions are also executable to determine a chroma control point. The instructions are further executable to shift a pixel color toward neutral.

A method for adjusting colors in a color reproduction device. A user input is received indicating a color adjustment for a color original. This is then used to select a transform. The transform is applied to color values to produce adjusted color values. The adjusted color values are then used in further processing and eventually converted into the printer color space.
