A method of characterizing a subterranean formation using a plurality of seismic acquisitions includes obtaining a first seismic acquisition of the subterranean formation, wherein the first seismic acquisition is a baseline survey. Injecting a gas fluid into the subterranean formation, wherein the gas fluid at least partially fills a portion of a fracture network of the subterranean formation. Obtaining a second seismic acquisition of the subterranean formation. Calculating a time-lapse difference in the plurality of seismic acquisitions.

4D seismic as a method for characterizing fracture network and fluid distribution in unconventional reservoir

A method creates a fluid communication path between a first production well and a second production well. At least one hydraulic fracture intersects the first production well and is separated from the second production well by a wall thereof. The method includes identifying, from the second production well, a location of the hydraulic fracture of the first production well, and perforating the wall of the second production well at the identified location. The perforating creates the fluid communication path between the production wells. Injection of fracking fluid and proppant at the first production well allows for additional fluids to be extracted from the second production well, thus generating a flow between the two production wells through the hydraulic fracture.

Systems and methods for creating a fluid communication path between production wells

A data acquisition program, which includes core, image log, microseismic, DAS, DTS, and pressure data, is described. This program can be used in conjunction with a variety of techniques to accurately monitor and conduct well stimulation.

Stimulated rock volume analysis

The invention relates to DAS observation has been proven to be useful for monitoring hydraulic fracturing operations. While published literature has shown focus on the high-frequency components (&#x3e;1 Hz) of the data, this invention discloses that much of the usable information may reside in the very low frequency band (0-50 milliHz). Due to the large volume of a DAS dataset, an efficient workflow has been developed to process the data by utilizing the parallel computing and the data storage. The processing approach enhances the signal while decreases the data size by 10000 times, thereby enabling easier consumption by other multi-disciplinary groups for further analysis and interpretation. The polarity changes as seen from the high signal to noise ratio (SNR) low frequency DAS images are currently being utilized for interpretation of completions efficiency monitoring in hydraulically stimulated wells.

Low frequency distributed acoustic sensing

A method of monitoring hydraulic fracturing using DAS sensors in a treatment well and/or observation well is described. The raw data is transformed using a low pass filter (&#x2264;0.05 Hz) and down-sampled to show the signal as the stimulation progresses. The resulting data can be used to optimize the hydraulic fracturing or improve reservoir models for other reservoirs.
