A polymer nanocomposite coating of an elastomeric film containing at least 30 wt % conductive nanoparticles based on combined weight of elastomer and conductive nanoparticles is provided. The conductive nanoparticles have an average particle size along each dimension of less than 500 nm for nanoparticles having an aspect ratio of less than 20:1 or have an average particle size along each dimension of less than 2000 nm for nanoparticles having an aspect ratio of 20:1 or greater. The conductive nanoparticles are formed into hierarchical micro- and nano-sized aggregates having re-entrant morphology. The coating is both superoleophobic and conductive and retains these properties even when stretched under strain to over 100%. The coatings may be produced with simple spray technology.

Elastomeric coatings

A halogenated polyisoolefin copolymer is composed of at least one isoolefin monomer, at least one multiolefin monomer, a halogen content of 0.05-2.5 mol %, and a halogenated oligomer content of less than 65% of total oligomer content in the halogenated polyisoolefin copolymer. The copolymer has low halogen content and significantly reduced levels of halogenated oligomers. The copolymer is especially useful in the pharmaceutical and food industries, for example as pharmaceutical and food product seals and closures.

Halogenated polyisoolefins with reduced halogenated oligomers

A polymeric compound involves a blend of 50 wt % or greater of a thermoplastic having an average melting point (T) of less than 200 &#xb0; C. and less than 50 wt % of a butyl rubber ionomer dispersed in a matrix of the thermoplastic, weights based on total weight of the thermoplastic and butyl rubber ionomer. Such blends may exhibit improved physical properties compared to unblended thermoplastic, particularly ultimate elongation and/or damping. The polymeric compounds are useful for forming a variety of articles of manufacture.

The present invention relates to functionalized copolymers of isoolefins and olefinic monomers, particularly to azidated copolymers. The present invention also relates to methods of preparing such azidated copolymers. The functionalized copolymers are used in various technology areas such as surface modification, adhesion, drug delivery, compatibilization of polymer blends or motor oil and fuel additives, and in providing clean cured products without contaminant leaching and/or side products.

The present invention relates to curing of polymers, particularly to self curing of polymers. The present invention provides a process for curing of copolymers of isoolefins and olefinic monomers. The process includes the step of reacting the copolymer with an azidation reagent to form an azidated copolymer and then heating the azidated copolymer at a suitable temperature to cure the polymer.

Process for production of polymer nanocomposites

The invention relates to a latex composition wherein the latex composition comprises a butyl ionomer or partially halogenated butyl rubber ionomer. The latex composition is formed by dissolving the butyl ionomer in a suitable solvent, emulsifying the polymer in the solvent, adding water and optionally a minor amount of a suitable surfactant system to the emulsion and concentrating the emulsion to remove the water. The advantages of butyl ionomer latex include lower emulsifier levels, increased latex stability, improved interaction and adhesion to polar substrates and surfaces. Through the judicious choice of emulsifiers and/or washing to remove excess emulsifier a film with enhanced non-extractable polymeric antimicrobial function can be created. These properties of ionomer latex are useful in coatings, dipped goods and sponge applications.

Butyl ionomer latex

The invention relates to the use of butyl ionomers or partially halogenated butyl ionomers in reducing a population of and/or preventing accumulation of organisms. The organisms may be bacteria, algae, fungi, mollusca or arthropoda. The invention also relates to coatings for shaped articles comprising the butyl ionomers.
