A printer contains a list of objects to be printed under control of a controller. Different resolutions for the objects are included in the list of objects to be printed. In one embodiment, each item has an associated resolution indicating a minimum resolution for printing the item, unless the item before it has the same resolution. In such a case, the previous resolution is used to render ensuing objects for printing until an object requires a different resolution. A rendering module renders the object for printing as a function of the listed resolutions and resolutions supported by the printer. If the desired resolution is lower than that supported by the printer, the lowest resolution of the printer is used to render the object.

Systems and methods for correcting perspective in an image are invented and disclosed. One embodiment comprises capturing image data responsive to light incident upon an image-capture device, wherein the image data includes a first perspective of a subject-of-interest, providing an image-processing algorithm executable by the image-capture device, the image-processing algorithm configured to generate modified data responsive to the image data and a perspective-correction factor, and executing the image-processing algorithm over the image data in accordance with the perspective-correction factor to generate modified data that includes a second perspective of the subject-of-interest.

An exemplary device implementation includes: a manager that is capable of monitoring a process for preparing a page for printing; and a print engine that is capable of printing the page after the process for preparing the page for printing is complete; wherein the device is adapted to temporally overlap the process for preparing the page for printing with preparation of the print engine for printing. An exemplary method implementation includes actions of: beginning processing of a page of a printing job; providing at least one command to a print engine responsive to at least one time remaining estimate for the processing of the page of the printing job prior to completion of the processing of the page of the printing job; and changing a state of the print engine responsive to the providing of the at least one command to the print engine.

A method of editing a printed page comprises feeding a printed page into a multifunction printer with the printed page including text and at least one handwritten edit symbol. A first electronic printable file, which corresponds to the text of printed page, and at least one electronic edit symbol, which corresponds to the at least one handwritten edit symbol, are obtained via the multifunction printer. Via the multifunction printer, the first electronic printable file is electronically modified with at least one electronic edit instruction, which corresponds to the at least one electronic edit symbol, to create a second electronic printable file that includes the text modified according to the at least one handwritten edit symbol.

It is determined whether a print job to be output on a color laser-printing device is to have reduced color toner usage. In response to determining that the print job is to have reduced color toner usage, the print job is adjusted so that the print job consumes less color toner when output on the color laser-printing device, by color-desaturating the print job.

In one embodiment, a raster image processor, which may be part of a printing device or configured as a separate device, includes a processor to parse a print ready file, a rasterizer to translate the parsed print ready file to an intermediate file, and a compressor to translate the intermediate file to an embedded bit-stream.

A printer includes a local non-volatile memory for storing at least one print job; and a control system, including at least one processor and an encryption algorithm. When a print job is sent to the printer and designated for printing at a later time, the print job is assigned a key identification number (KEY) and then encrypted by the processor based on the encryption algorithm and the KEY. The encrypted print job is then stored in the local non-volatile memory as a secured print job, while the KEY associated with the encrypted print job is erased from the printer.

A method of partially pre-rasterizing image data in a printing device includes evaluating image data for an image strip, estimating a minimum amount of the image data to be pre-rasterized in order to avoid a print overrun, and pre-rasterizing said minimum amount of image data.

A multi-staged image processing pipeline in a page printer includes a splitter stage for splitting a scan line of print data into sections for improved formatting efficiency and speed in the pipeline. In a preferred embodiment, the splitter stage forces a section of the scan line data to be processed by all relevant image processing stages with reduced cache thrashing. Each section of scan line data is set to be of a size that is optimal for (i.e., not greater than) the cache memory available. Advantageously, the splitter provides dynamically configurable splitter sizing and enables each stage to work on the data that is currently in the cache.
