A method implemented using at least one processor includes receiving a target image and a reference image. The target image is a distorted magnetic resonance image and the reference image is an undistorted magnetic resonance image. The method further includes selecting an image registration method for registering the target image to the reference image, wherein the image registration method uses an image transformation. The method further includes performing image registration of the target image with the reference image, wherein the image registration provides a plurality of optimized parameters of the image transformation. The method also includes generating a corrected image based on the target image and the plurality of optimized parameters of the image transformation.

System and method for medical image correction

A CT system includes a gantry, an x-ray source, a detector, and a grating collimator that includes alternating first and second materials. The system includes a controller configured to emit a first beam of x-rays from a first focal spot and to a first detector pixel, wherein the first beam of x-rays passes along a ray and through one of the first materials of the grating collimator, and subsequently emit a second beam of x-rays from a second focal spot and to the first detector pixel, wherein the second beam of x-rays passes substantially along the ray and through one of the second materials of the grating collimator. The system includes a computer programmed to generate first and second kVp image datasets using data acquired from the first beam and second beams of x-rays, and reconstruct a basis material image of the object.

System and method for multi-energy computed tomography imaging

A method is provided. The method includes acquiring projection data of an object from a plurality of pixels, reconstructing the acquired projection data from the plurality of pixels into a reconstructed image, performing material characterization and decomposition of an image volume of the reconstructed image to reduce a number of materials analyzed in the image volume to two basis materials. The method also includes generating a re-mapped image volume for at least one basis material of the two basis materials, and performing forward projection on at least the re-mapped image volume for the at least one basis material to produce a material-based projection. The method further includes generating multi-material corrected projections based on the material-based projection and a total projection attenuated by the object, which represents both of the two basis materials, wherein the multi-material corrected projections include linearized projections.

System and method for multi-material correction of image data

A computer is programmed to acquire calibration data from a calibration scan, the calibration data configured to characterize high order eddy current (HOEC) generated magnetic field error of an imaging system. The computer is also programmed to process the calibration data to generate a plurality of basis coefficients and a plurality of time constants and to calculate a plurality of basis correction coefficients based on the plurality of basis coefficients, the plurality of time constants, and gradient waveforms in a given pulse sequence. The computer is further programmed to execute a diffusion-weighted imaging scan that comprises application of a DW-EPI pulse sequence to acquire MR data from an imaging subject and reconstruction of an image based on the acquired MR data. The computer is also programmed to apply HOEC-generated magnetic field error correction during application of the DW-EPI pulse sequence configured to reduce HOEC-induced distortion in the reconstructed image.

System and method for prospective correction of high order eddy-current-induced distortion in diffusion-weighted echo planar imaging

An energy-sensitive system includes one or more processors configured to determine spectral attenuation curves for a first basis material and a second basis material, respectively. The one or more processors are configured to substitute a k-edge feature in the determined spectral attenuation curves with an approximation of the determined spectral attenuation curves lacking the k-edge feature. The one or more processors are also configured to construct a material decomposition model based on one of the determined or approximated first and second spectral attenuation curves. The one or more processors are additionally configured to decompose X-ray projection data into basis material projection data comprising first and second line integrals based, at least in part, on the model.

Systems and methods for X-ray imaging

A method for generating a magnetic resonance image includes acquiring a first k-space data set from each of a plurality of RF coils. The first k-space data set includes calibration data and randomly undersampled data. For each RF coil, a fully randomly sampled k-space data set is generated by removing a portion of the calibration data. A compressed sensing reconstruction technique is applied to the fully randomly sampled k-space data set to generate an aliased image, which is used to generate a uniformly undersampled k-space data set. A second k-space data set is generated by inserting the portion of the calibration data and a parallel imaging reconstruction technique is applied to the second k-space data set to synthesize unacquired data. The second k-space data set and the synthesized data are combined to generate a complete k-space data set for the RF coil.

System and method for generating a magnetic resonance image using compressed sensing and parallel imaging

A system and method is disclosed for eliminating localized fluctuation artifacts caused by fat signal contamination in MR images, the system includes a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system having a plurality of gradient coils positioned about a bore of a magnet, and an RF transceiver system and an RF switch controlled by a pulse module to transmit RF signals to an RF coil assembly to acquire MR images, and a computer programmed to apply a spectral-spatial fat saturation pulse, apply a slice selection gradient pulse, acquire imaging data of an imaging slice of interest, and generate an image.

System and method for reducing localized signal fluctuation

A method, system, and apparatus including a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) apparatus that includes an MRI system having a plurality of gradient coils, a radio-frequency (RF) transceiver system, an RF switch controlled by a pulse module to transmit RF signals to an RF coil assembly, and a computer. The computer is programmed to implement a spin echo sequence to acquire magnetic resonance (MR) data, where the spin echo sequence includes an excitation RF pulse and at least one refocusing pulse per repetition time (TR) of the excitation pulse. The computer is also programmed to transmit at least two component RF pulses in parallel channels during implementation of the spin echo sequence to produce a first refocusing RF pulse and programmed to reconstruct an image from spin echo sequence image data.

Apparatus and method for parallel transmission of RF pulses in a spin echo sequence

An apparatus and method include a computer programmed to implement a scan sequence configured to elicit scan data, wherein the scan sequence comprises an echo planar imaging (EPI) sequence configured to elicit the image data and to acquire the scan data. The computer is also programmed to manipulate the scan data to determine a first plurality of phase errors in the image data responsible for a Nyquist ghost, wherein the manipulated scan data is free of navigator echo data, remove the first plurality of phase errors from the image data, and reconstruct an image based on the image data having the first plurality of phase errors removed therefrom.

System and method of image artifact reduction using self-navigated real-time phase correction in echo planar imaging

Methods and systems for correlated noise suppression are presented. The present correlated noise suppression technique estimates a correlation direction between noise values in a first and a second MD image corresponding to a first and a second basis material, respectively. The two MD images are diffused using the estimated correlation direction to generate a first and a second diffused image. Further, first and second noise masks are generated by subtracting the diffused image from the corresponding MD image. Edges in the first and the second MD images are processed with the first and second noise masks, respectively to generate a final first noise mask and a final second noise mask. The first MD image is then processed with the final second noise mask to generate a final first MD image and the second MD image is processed with the final first noise mask to generate a final second MD image.

Method and system for correlated noise suppression in dual energy imaging

An imaging system includes an x-ray source that emits a beam of x-rays toward an object, a detector that receives high frequency electromagnetic energy attenuated by the object, a data acquisition system (DAS) operably connected to the detector, and a computer operably connected to the DAS. The computer is programmed to compute detector coefficients based on a static low kVp measurement and a static high kVp measurement, capture incident spectra at high and low kVp during fast kVp switching, compute effective X-ray incident spectra at high and low kVp during fast kVp switching using the captured incident spectra, scan a water phantom and normalize the computed detector coefficients to water, adjust the computed effective X-ray incident spectra based on the normalized detector coefficients, compute basis material decomposition functions using the adjusted X-ray incident spectra, and generate one or more basis material density images using the computed basis material decomposition functions.

System and method of spectral calibration and basis material decomposition for X-ray CT systems

The present disclosure relates to the generation of dual-energy X-ray data using a data sampling rate comparable to the rate utilized for single-energy imaging. In accordance with the present technique a reduced kVp switching rate is employed compared to conventional dual-energy imaging. Full angular resolution is achieved in the generated images.

The present invention discloses a computed tomography imager comprising: an x-ray source disposed in a gantry; a detector assembly for receiving an x-ray emission from an x-ray source, the x-ray source and the detector assembly rotatable about an imaging target; an imager control system for selectively modulating a kVp operating value in the x-ray source during a scan slice in accordance with an x-ray modulation software program; and a computer for receiving data from the detector assembly, and for providing control signals to the imager control system by executing the x-ray modulation software program for at least a portion of the total possible rotational scanning range of the x-ray source.

Apparatus and method for voltage modulation in X-ray computed tomography

Techniques for designing RF pulses may be configured to produce improved magnitude profiles of the resulting magnetization by relaxing the phase constraint and optimizing the phase profiles. In one embodiment, a spinor-based, optimal control, optimal phase technique may be used to design arbitrary-tip-angle (e.g., large and small tip angle) RF pulses (both parallel transmission and single channel). In another embodiment, small tip angle RF pulses (both parallel transmission and single channel) may be designed using a small-tip-angle (STA) pulse design without phase constraint that is formulated as a parameter optimization problem.
