A system is provided, where the system includes at least one security system sensor, at least one home automation device and a security system processor that monitors the security system sensor and generates an alarm upon activation of the at least one security system sensor. The security system processor also monitors the at least one home automation device and generates an alarm upon detecting the manual activation of the at least one home automation device.

A system, method process and apparatus is presented for interfacing digital and audio communications in a security system, comprising, a control panel having one or more first radio receiver/transceivers and one or more remote alarm sensors coupled to the control panel and the control panel receiving one or more digital reports from each one or more remote alarm sensors, a wireless interface device having one or more second radio receiver/transceivers for receiving the digital reports from the control panel unit and for establishing two-way voice communication between the control panel and the wireless interface unit, one or more telephone units coupled to the wireless interface device for communicating with the wireless interface unit and at least one POTS and/or IP network modem device coupled to the wireless interface device, an IP network, wherein, the wireless interface device includes a communication processing unit for transmitting one or more digital reports to a monitoring service via the POTS and/or IP network and for establishing two-way voice communication between the control panel and the monitoring service via a voice channel connection.

An apparatus to provide real time anti-smash protection for monitoring systems includes a displaced server which communicates with a plurality of monitoring systems. Methods of operating the server provide assurance that alarm indicating messages are forwarded to a monitoring station for evaluation by an operator even where a local monitoring system has been damaged or compromised.

An object locator feature is incorporated into a security system that includes a user interface device with a display, keypad and associated transmitter. Wireless RF electronic tags with sounders are attached to different objects, e.g., an inanimate object, or a living being such as a child or pet. Each tag has an identifier such as a serial number that is learned to the user interface device by the user typing in the identifier of each tag. The user also types in descriptive information regarding the object with which the tag is associated, The user can edit the entries by adding or deleting objects, or changing the descriptive information. In a search mode, the user can select an object by its name or an assigned sequence number. In a polling mode, the electronic tags are periodically polled to confirm the presence of the associated object to the user.

Object locator feature as part of a security system

A telephone device such as a speaker phone or message recording device is remotely controlled either as a standalone device or as part of a security system. The telephone device can be controlled by a key fob or other user-operated transmitter that a user actuates to answer a call by speaker phone, end a call, place a call, or control functions of the message recording device such as playing back messages. The key fob transmits a wireless signal that is received and processed by a security system. In response, the security system controls the telephone device. The key fob may control security functions as well. In another approach, the key fob may control the telephone device directly without intervention of a security system. Or, the key fob may control the telephone device via a home automation network.

Remote control of a speaker phone device as a standalone device or as part of a security system

A device for measuring physical characteristics includes a beam generator selectively generating a target beam. The device further includes two angle detectors that measure the respective angles between the beams and, respectively a vertical and a horizontal axis. The device further includes a calculator that calculates the distances to said points as well as the distance between the two points.

Tracking, presence verification, and locating features are incorporated into a security system that includes a user interface device with a display, keypad and associated transceiver. Wireless RF electronic tags are attached to different objects, e.g., an inanimate object, or a living being such as a child or pet. To verify the presence of an object associated with a tag, the user instructs the user interface device to transmit a wireless signal to the tag. The tag responds, when within range, by returning a wireless signal. In another aspect, a person is detected such as at the entry to a home, and a low-power transmitter at the entry sends a signal to the electronic tag. The electronic tag responds by transmitting data to the security system to cause it to take a desired action. The presence of a person, such as a child, in an unauthorized area can trigger an alarm.

A device for measuring physical characteristics includes a beam generator component generating first and second beams at two points. The device further includes a protractor that measures the angle between the beams. The device measures the distances to the two points and with the angle between the two beams, determines a predetermined characteristic, such as the distance between the two points.

The device, in its simplest configuration has an annunciator showing the receipt of one or more e-mail messages held for the customer by a remote ISP. In more advanced configurations, the e-mail is prioritized and the device shows the messages having certain priority. In even more advanced configuration, the device may also display and or announce e-mail sender's name and may also display the subject of the e-mail message if this item was provided by the e-mail sender, and may also display the actual e-mail message text. The device may be disposed in small housing dedicated for e-mail display and announcement or alternatively may be incorporated into another device such as a telephone or any other electronic consumer equipment.
