A hollow-core optical fiber may include a hollow core extending along a central longitudinal axis of the fiber; a substrate; a plurality of first cladding elements spaced apart from each other and positioned between the hollow core and the substrate, each of the first cladding elements extending in a direction parallel to the central longitudinal axis of the fiber, each of the first cladding elements including a first capillary; and a plurality of second cladding elements spaced apart from each other and positioned between the hollow core and the substrate, each of the second cladding elements extending in a direction parallel to the central longitudinal axis of the fiber, each of the second cladding elements including a second capillary. Each of the first cladding elements directly contacts the inner surface of the substrate, and none of the second cladding elements directly contacts the inner surface of the substrate.

Hollow-core optical fibers

A hollow-core optical fiber may include a substrate having a tubular shape and an inner surface surrounding a central longitudinal axis of the hollow-core optical fiber; a hollow core extending through the substrate along the central longitudinal axis of the hollow-core optical fiber; and a plurality of cladding elements positioned between the central longitudinal axis of the hollow-core optical fiber and the substrate. Each of the plurality of cladding elements may extend in a direction parallel to the central longitudinal axis of the hollow-core optical fiber. Each of the plurality of cladding elements may include a wound glass sheet configured as a spiral, and each of the plurality of cladding elements may contact an interior surface of the substrate.

Generally, disclosed herein are various embodiments of bonding agents for use in adhering optical fibers to ferrules within optical connectors, and the methods for use thereof. The various embodiments of bonding agents described herein may provide desirable properties, such as, but not limited to, high adhesion strength and/or improved performance following environmental aging. Various embodiments of the bonding agents disclosed herein may also have other desirable properties for the process of securing an optical fiber within a ferrule, such as, but not limited to, shortened process cycle time. Embodiments herein address these needs by monitoring the change in refractive index of a photocurable bonding agent at the interface between the photocurable bonding agent and a substrate or optical fiber, which is referred to as 'back reflectance.' In particular, the methods described herein utilize back reflectance techniques to cure the photocurable material or bonding agent.

A method of making a spot size converter comprising a multi-tip waveguide comprising a first and a second waveguide portions, the method comprising the steps of: coating a multilayer wafer comprising a waveguide material layer with a resist material; exposing the coated resist material to a deep UV beam or an electron beam; developing resist material to form an partial waveguide pattern within the resist material; transferring the partial waveguide pattern to the waveguide material layer, forming an initial waveguide; placing a second layer of resist material over the initial waveguide; patterning a tapered gap region shape in the second layer of resist material by exposing the second layer of resist material to a deep UV beam or an electron beam; and transferring the tapered gap region shape to the waveguide material layer of the initial waveguide to form a tapered gap region inside the initial waveguide.

The linear distribution includes at least one arrangement segment corresponding with a third-order sequence segment or higher of the quasi-periodic sequence.

Communications systems comprising waveguide arrays for realizing localized quantum walks

A multicore optical fiber that includes a plurality of waveguiding cores disposed in a cladding. The plurality of cores are situated adjacent to at least one other core with a core center to core center spacing being not larger than 10 times the radius of the average core, such that the greater than 10% of the light will couple from one core to the adjacent core over a propagating distance of 1 cm, along the fiber length so as to provide coupling between the adjacent cores and to enable quantum walk. The plurality waveguiding cores are disposed in the cladding in a ring distribution or at least a portion of the ring distribution.
