A powered two-wheel vehicle includes a chassis extending between a rotatable front fork and a fixed rear fork. A deck is attached to the chassis to enclose a compartment. A front wheel is rotatably attached to the front fork and a rear wheel is rotatably attached to the rear fork via a hub motor. The steering assembly includes a head tube supported above and in front of the deck by a pair of arched frame tubes, a steering tube rotatably connected to the head tube, and a rotational damper connected between the head tube and the steering tube.

An exemplary method for making a metal matrix composite vehicle component includes: using a mold including male and female die portions having mold surfaces and a plurality of spacers; heating the mold to a casting temperature; placing a ceramic preform on the plurality of spacers, the ceramic preform being spaced apart from at least one of the mold surfaces by the spacers; closing the mold to form a mold cavity between the mold surfaces of the male and female die portions, the ceramic preform being disposed within the mold cavity; providing molten metal into the mold cavity; and pressurizing the molten metal to a casting pressure for a casting duration to infiltrate the ceramic preform thereby forming the metal matrix composite vehicle component.

Device and method for forming a metal matrix composite vehicle component

The present application discloses a ceramic preform, a method of making a ceramic preform, a MMC comprising a ceramic preform, and a method of making a MMC. The method of making a ceramic preform generally comprises preparing reinforcing fibers, preparing a ceramic compound, and forming the compound into a desired shape to create the ceramic preform. In certain embodiments, the ceramic compound is formed as either a disc or a ring for use in a brake disc metal matrix composite. The metal matrix composite generally comprises the ceramic preform infiltrated with a molten metal to form the brake disc metal matrix composite. The method of making the metal matrix composite generally comprises heating the ceramic preform, placing the ceramic preform in a mold cavity of a die cast mold, and introducing molten metal into the mold cavity to infiltrate the ceramic preform to form the brake disc metal matrix composite.

Ceramic preform and method

An exemplary method for making a metal matrix composite vented brake rotor includes: providing a first side plate; providing a second side plate; and welding the first and second side plates together. The first and second side plates have outer surfaces, inner surfaces, and metal matrix composite portions extending from the outer surfaces to a distance from the inner surface that is less than a thickness measured between the inner surface and outer surface. The inner surface of the first side plate includes a vent portion. The step of welding includes welding the first vent portion to the second inner surface to form the vented brake rotor, the vented brake rotor having a plurality of vents formed by the first and second inner surfaces and the first vent portion.

Metal matrix composite vehicle component and method

The present application discloses a ceramic preform, a method of making a ceramic preform and a metal matrix composite comprising a ceramic preform. In one exemplary embodiment, the ceramic preform comprises a ceramic compound compressed into the shape of a cylinder by rotational compression molding. The cylinder has an inner surface and an outer surface. A first liner may be attached to the inner surface of the cylinder and a second liner may attached to the outer surface of the cylinder. The metal matrix composite of the present application may be formed as a brake drum or a brake disc.

The present application discloses a natural gas compressor, a natural gas compressor assembly, a system for compressing natural gas, and a method of compressing natural gas. In certain embodiments, the natural gas compressor comprises a housing, a plurality of cylinder piston assemblies disposed within the housing, and a drive system for moving the pistons of the cylinder piston assemblies to compress natural gas within the cylinders of the assemblies. Each cylinder piston assembly comprises a piston for compressing natural gas within a cylinder of the assembly. The plurality of cylinder piston assemblies are fluidly connected in sequence such that each assembly forms a compression stage of the compressor.

An energy-absorbing pad structure includes an energy-absorbing pad that is encapsulated by a polymeric film. The polymeric film is sufficiently air-permeable to permit air to escape during rapid compression of the pad structure, such as from a high-speed dynamic impact, but nonetheless is water resistant under ordinary conditions. It is desirable that the polymeric film is made from an elastic polymer. The air-permeability can be provided from a series of perforations such that the film's elastic quality tends to contract the perforations thereby impeding the progress of water through them under normal conditions. The energy-absorbing pad can be a semi-rigid viscoelastic foam.

A composite armor including a disrupting layer and a backing layer provides protection against blast and ballistic threats. The disrupting layer includes ceramic particles or tiles that disrupt the incoming projectile, while the backing layer prevents penetration past the armor by the disrupted projectile. The disrupting layer may include a layer of polygonal ceramic tiles with a deflecting front surface, encased by a retaining polymer, and may also include fire-retarding particles.

An exhaust manifold is provided having substantially ceramic inner and insulation layers. The manifold preferably has a metal outer structural layer to impart strength to the manifold. The ceramic layers are made of ceramic fibers with the interstitial spaces between the fibers being filled with ceramic filler material. The preferred ceramic fibers are aluminosilicate fibers. The preferred ceramic filler material is alumina, silica, glass-ceramic or other metal oxide. A method of making an exhaust manifold having a substantially ceramic inner and insulation layer is also provided.

A protective helmet is provided which preferably has a hard outer shell and an energy-absorbing liner. The liner is made of low resilience or slow-recovery viscoelastic foam which is compression rate sensitive.
