A computer implemented method, a computerized system and a computer program product for automatic image segmentation. The computer implemented method comprises obtaining an image of a tissue, wherein the image is produced using an imaging modality. The method further comprises automatically identifying, by a processor, a tissue segment within the image, wherein said identifying comprises identifying an artifact within the image, wherein the artifact is a misrepresentation of a tissue structure, wherein the misrepresentation is associated with the imaging modality; and searching for the tissue segment in a location adjacent to the artifact.

Method, system, and computer program product for tracing seismic sections to convert to digital format are provided. The method includes: receiving a scan of a seismic section having multiple overlapping traces measured at spot points; splitting the traces into segments; associating the segments with appropriate baselines; estimating the traces between segments using logical rules; and deriving amplitudes of the traces.

A computer implemented method for adaptive optical character recognition on a document with distorted characters includes performing a distortion-correction transformation on a segmented character of the document assuming the segmented character to be a candidate character. The method further includes comparing the transformed segmented character to the candidate character by calculating a comparison score. If the calculated score is within a predetermined range, the segmented character is identified with the candidate character. The method may be implemented in either of computer hardware configured to perform the method, or in computer software embodied in a non-transitory, tangible, computer-readable storage medium. Also disclosed are corresponding computer program product and data processing system.

Adaptive optical character recognition on a document with distorted characters

A computer implemented method for retrieving seismic data from a seismic section provided in a bitmap format. The method includes reconstructing a two dimensional matrix of seismic interpolated data in which a value at a given pixel in the matrix is proportional to local density of wiggles in the seismic section with an added value of a previously calculated pixel. The method may be implemented in either of computer hardware configured to perform said method and computer software embodied in a non-transitory, tangible, computer-readable storage medium. Also disclosed are corresponding computer program product and data processing system.

A method for optical character recognition (OCR) verification, the method includes: receiving a first character image that was obtained from applying an OCR process on a document; wherein the first character image is classified, by the OCR, as being associated with a first character; receiving a first character code of a text; replacing the first character code by the first character image; and evaluating a correctness of the OCR based upon a response of a user to a display of the text first character image.

An automatic vehicular traffic flow control technique defines a controlled area, wherein vehicles belonging to different traffic streams contend for occupancy of a conflict zone. A traversal order is computed for the vehicles in the controlled area, wherein the ordered vehicles are assigned to traverse the conflict zone sequentially in accordance with their respective positions in the traversal order. Tracking and tracked vehicles are designated, wherein a respective tracked vehicle immediately precedes each of the tracking vehicles in the traversal order. The tracking vehicles maintain a specified physical relationship with their respective tracked vehicles until the tracked vehicle has traversed the conflict zone. The speed of the traffic streams is increased as necessary so as to achieve a desired throughput through the conflict zone.

Optimization of vehicular traffic flow through a conflict zone

Establishing communication between people when face-to-face communication is difficult by pointing a portable device in a direction of a target and recording a position and orientation of the portable device and by recording a distance between the portable device and the target. Further, this communication is established by calculating a location of the target based on the recorded position, orientation, and distance and broadcasting, via the portable device, a message including the calculated location of the target. Moreover, this communication is established when the target receiving the message, compares the calculated location of the target with an actual position of the target to determine whether the target that received the initiation message is within a predetermined proximity of the calculated location of the target. If the receiving target is within the predetermined proximity of the intended target, a reply is transmitted to the portable device to initiate handshaking.

A method for computerized processing of paper forms includes receiving an electronic image of a paper form containing text information from a client having a telephone. The text information is extracted from the form using an optical character recognition (OCR) process. A field of the extracted text information that is suspected of containing an error is identified, and a first text message is automatically communicated to the telephone asking the client to verify the identified field. A second text message is received in response to the first text message, and the text information in the field is validated or corrected according to the response.

A method for automatic sorting includes receiving an item in a sequence of items to be sorted, each such item marked with a respective machine-readable identifying code and with respective characters in a location relative to the code that varies from one item to another in the sequence. Also provided is playback apparatus comprising an optical scanner for producing a digital representation of a document on which is printed an optically readable image, a decoder for converting the optically readable image into audio signals using a predefined code and a transducer for producing a sound corresponding to the audio signals. The recording apparatus and the playback apparatus can be integrated into a single apparatus. In a preferred form of the invention, a device is provided which is adapted for connection to a conventional fax machine to form such recording or playback apparatus in conjunction therewith.

An improved method is disclosed of compressing, for storage or transmission, the information contained in a bi-level digitized input image by separate handling of a corresponding template image and a compressed image, which method is capable of handling 'white-out' areas of the image. In accordance with the method, the template image is subtracted from the input image to generate the compressed image, the subtraction is characterized in that the subtraction step determines, for each pixel, whether the pixel is a 'removed pixel' and, if so, the pixel is assigned to be black in the compressed image. A pixel is a 'removed pixel' if the corresponding pixel in the template image is black, and the corresponding pixel in the input image is white.

The invention relates to a method for the compression and decompression of binary test images. The method distinguishes between large low-frequency areas and small high-frequency areas in the original frame. For the low-frequency areas, a scheme for lossy compression is used, whereas for the high-frequency areas, a scheme permitting lossless compression is applied. The compression/decompression process involves five stages; namely prefiltering to remove all black patches (e.g. by removing all black pixels, except where they belong to a large black segment), fast evaluation of compressibility by partitioning the images into mutually exclusive segments and applying different compression modes to each segment, connectivity-oriented subsampling to reduce the reslolution in horizontal and vertical directions which cause the image to be segmented into blocks and a 1-pixel representation for each block is determined, lossless compression and decompression where the reduced file is compressed by conventional techniques, and reconstruction by sequence reversal so that lossless decompression will retrieve the subsampled file, expansion of the subsampled file through replacement of each pixel by a block having equal value and postfiltering.

This method relates to the compression of information contained in filled-in forms (O) by separate handling of the corresponding empty forms (CP) and of the information written into them (VP). Samples of the empty forms are pre-scanned, the data obtained digitized and stored in a computer memory to create a forms library. The original, filled-in form (O) to be compressed is then scanned, the data obtained digitized and the retrieved representation of the empty form (CP) is then subtracted, the difference being the digital representation of the filled-in information (VP), which may now be compressed by conventional methods or, preferably, by an adaptive compression scheme using at least two compression ratios depending on the relative content of black pixels in the data to be compressed.

A method for substituting interpolated values for ambiguous symbols in an arithmetically encoded symbol string, symbols in the unencoded original string being drawn from a Markov source and a finite alphabet. Ambiguity of a symbol is defined as where its symbol occurrence statistic lies outside of a predetermined range. Interpolation involves selectively combining the occurrence statistics of symbols adjacent the ambiguous symbol and recursively and arithmetically encoding the combined statistics. The method otherwise encodes unambiguous symbols in a conventional arithmetic manner. The decoding duals are also described.
