An exhaust gas recirculation cooler includes an inlet configured to receive exhaust gas from an engine, an outlet configured to direct the exhaust gas back toward the engine, and an exhaust gas flow conduit. The flow conduit includes a first end adjacent the inlet, a second end adjacent the outlet, a first narrow side, a second narrow side, substantially flat broad sides extending between the narrow sides, a first channel adjacent the first narrow side and extending between the ends, a second channel adjacent the second narrow side and extending between the ends, and a plurality of third channels located between the first and second channels and extending between the ends. A plate is located at one end of the flow conduit to inhibit the exhaust gas from flowing through at least one of the first channel and the second channel while allowing exhaust gas flow through the third channels.

Heat exchanger and method of manufacturing the same

A heat exchanger () is provided and in a highly preferred form is an EGR cooler () having first and second passes (A,B) that are connected to an inlet/outlet manifold () by a pair of corresponding thermal expansion joints () to allow differential thermal expansion between the various structural components of the heat exchanger ().

An integrated exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) cooler with dual coolant loops comprises an exhaust gas inlet and an exhaust gas outlet for recirculating exhaust gas. An exhaust gas flow path extends between the exhaust gas inlet and the exhaust gas outlet to direct recirculating exhaust gas from the exhaust gas inlet to the exhaust gas outlet. A first coolant flow path extends between a first coolant inlet and a first coolant outlet to direct a first coolant flow from the EGR cooler in heat exchange relation with the exhaust gas flow path. A second coolant flow path extends between a second coolant inlet and a second coolant outlet to direct a second coolant flow through the EGR cooler in heat exchange relation with the exhaust gas flow path.
