Various embodiments of electronic communication systems and methods in which an infrastructure in-motion adapts from a first set of communication parameters to a second set of communication parameters while moving from one geographical region to a second geographical region, and associated transmission pattern of the infrastructure in-motion may be modified to either avoid a problem of multiple-region-coverage or to resolve such a problem once it has arisen. The infrastructure in-motion may be a base station or other infrastructure, and any or all of multiple techniques such as beam switching, beam selection, phased array, and null-steering, may be used to modify a transmission pattern. In various alternative embodiments, infrastructure in-motion in one geographical region establishes a first backhaul link with a first core network, moves to a second geographical region, and then establishes a second backhaul ink with a second core network.

Systems and methods are presented for effectively sharing a plurality of radio transceiver chains between a Backhaul link and a Radio Access Network (RAN), in which there is a wireless Base Station (BS) with some number of radio transceiver chains, the system initially allocates such chains between the Backhaul link and the RAN according to some criterion, the system dynamically monitors the performance of the Backhaul link and RAN to detect any deficiencies in desired levels of performance, and the system then reallocates the radio transceiver chains between the Backhaul link and the RAN in a manner calculated to help achieve the desired levels of performance. Optionally and in various embodiments, the digital signals to and from the Backhaul link, or to and from the RAN, may be MIMO signals, MRC signals, MMSE signals, or ML signals.

Sharing of radio resources between a backhaul link and a radio access network

Methods for a wireless Base Station (BS) capable of simultaneously providing service to subscribers of multiple Operators. Depending upon the particular deployment requirements or equipment capabilities, each Operator may be operating on the same or different frequencies (in which different frequencies may be adjacent, closely separated, or widely separated). The wireless BS will distinguish and logically separate and route the traffic between each subscriber device and its relevant Operator's Core Network, potentially supporting different logical or even different physical interfaces between the wireless BS and each Operator.

Methods for supporting multiple operators in a wireless basestation

Devices, systems, and methods are presented for a wireless base station to assign dynamically a plurality of radio transceiver chains among a varying number of wireless channels. In this manner, the communication system including the wireless base station may transition between a range extension mode and an enhanced capacity mode. In the range extension mode, a system is configured for maximum communication range with Subscriber Stations that are relatively distant from the radio transceiver chains, although communication is still possible with nearby Subscriber Stations. In the enhanced capacity mode, the system is configured for maximum communication throughput with Subscriber Stations that are relatively near to the radio transceiver chains, whereas communication with relatively distant Subscriber Stations will be either terminated or at least non-optimized.

Architecture, devices and methods for supporting multiple channels in a wireless system

Systems and methods are presented for effectively utilizing a Backhaul link shared by two or more wireless system Operators, such that data rates from multiple Core Network data sources to the shared Backhaul link, and data rates from multiple sets of Subscriber Stations to the shared Backhaul link, are controlled so that a combined downlink rate substantially does not exceed a predetermined Backhaul data rate, and a combined uplink rate substantially does not exceed a predetermined Backhaul data rate, thereby preventing an overloading of the shared Backhaul link. Further, communication rates of different data sets within the downstream and upstream, respectively, are dynamically altered to provide best overall service within the downstream and upstream, respectively, while not overloading the shared Backhaul link.

Shared backhaul link for multiple wireless systems

Systems and method are presented for a wireless Base Station (BS) of a host Operator to allow access to its Radio Access Network (RAN) by both Subscriber Stations associated with the host Operator and Subscriber Stations associated with other Operators, in which the first set of Subscriber Stations are connected by a general backhaul channel to the host Operator's Core Network data source, and the second set of Subscriber Station are connected by dedicated backhaul channels to Core Network data sources of the other Operators. In this manner, the host Operator provides partial roaming to the second set of Subscriber Stations, which use the host Operators RAN and wireless BS, but not the host Operator's network infrastructure.

Wireless roaming with dedicated backhaul

Various embodiments are presented for combining features of a Radio Access Network (RAN) and those of a backhaul link or Network. In particular, and unlike the prior art, certain hardware and software resources are shared by the two Networks as needed. Such resources may include, for example, radio transceiver chains, interconnects, interconnect matrices, and RF power combiners. These resources will be dedicated on a time and need basis to either Network. This sharing permits the economizing of resources. Also, the aggregated transmission power of the radio transceiver chains previously used for RAN communication can now be utilized for backhaul transmission, or the aggregated reception capability for multiple chains used for RAN communication can now be used to improve reception when receiving transmissions from the Core Network.

Methods and systems for sharing resources between a radio access network and a backhaul network

A single wireless cellular system provides cellular service using first and second radio bands, belonging to two different Operators, respectively. The first radio band is located higher in frequency than the second radio band. Subscriber Stations, associated with either of the Operators, or with a third Operator, may perform partial roaming between the two bands within the single wireless cellular system, in order to optimize data throughputs, coverage, or both.
