The handle is positionable with respect to the elongated shaft between first and second positions, for mounting a drill member on the proximal end of the elongated shaft in one position, and for manipulating the bone by means of the handle in a second position.

A medical implement for transport of a suture shuttle, comprising a handle including a proximal portion configured for manual gripping by a user, a distal portion, an internal passageway for a suture shuttle, extending between a proximal end and a distal end of the handle; an intermediate portion formed with a thumb depression facing a first direction; the proximal portion comprising a slot extending from the internal passageway to a lateral face of the handle for enabling side-loading of a suture shuttle into a proximal portion of the internal passageway, the slot facing a second direction; the slot extending longitudinally from a proximal end of the handle to an intersection with the thumb depression, wherein at the intersection the slot is exposed in the first direction, and a roller rotatably mounted at the thumb depression.

Medical implement for manipulating sutures particularly useful in arthroscopic surgery

A medical implement particularly useful in arthroscopic sutures, includes: a handle having a proximal end configured for manual gripping by a user, a distal end, an internal passageway extending between the proximal end and the distal end, and an intermediate portion formed with a recess extending from the outer surface to the internal passageway. A shuttle is movable through the passageway and has an intermediate portion exposed within the recess for manipulation by a user gripping the handle, and a suture-receiving-element at its distal movable axially through the distal end of the handle. A roller is rotatably mounted to the handle to underlie the exposed portion of the shuttle such that, after a suture has been received by the suture-receiving-element of the shuttle, a user, gripping the handle, may manipulate the shuttle with respect to the distal end of the handle by thumb-pressing the exposed portion of the shuttle against the roller and rotating the roller.

Described is an arthroscopic bone transplanting procedure for transplanting a section of a first bone to a second bone. The described procedure is particularly useful for the treatment an anterior shoulder instability, where the first bone is the coracoid and the second bone is the glenoid. Also described is a kit of medical instruments particularly useful in such a procedure.

An implement for orientating a tool at a predetermined angle with respect to a plane of a target surface to be engaged by the tool, particularly for orientating a surgical cutting tool perpendicularly to bone tissue for harvesting and implanting a bone plug to repair damaged bone tissue, includes a rod having a distal end coupled to a head formed with three contact points arranged in a circular array around the longitudinal axis of the rod, such that the three contact points define a plane. The rod is coupled to the head with the longitudinal axis of the rod at the predetermined angle to the plane defined by the three contact points, such that when the three contact points of the rod are in contact with the target surface, the longitudinal axis of the rod is at the predetermined angle with respect to the plane of the target surface.

Implement for orientating a tool, particularly useful in surgical tools for harvesting and implanting bone plugs to repair damaged bone tissue

An implement, particularly useful as a medical implement for applying a suture to a body tissue, includes a handle and shaft formed with a pair of channels extending from the proximal end of the handle through the distal end of the shaft and through a pair of jaws carried at the distal end of the shaft. The pair of channels converge towards each other to a cross-over point, and then diverging away from each other where existing at the distal end of the shaft. The channels are dimensioned to enable a piercing instrument to be passed first through one of the channels to pierce the body with a first bore, and then through the other of the channels to pierce the body with the second bore, such that the two bores have entry ends precisely spaced a predetermined distance from each other, and exit ends precisely spaced a larger predetermined distance from each other.

Piercing implement particularly useful as a medical implement for piercing body tissue, and method of using such implement for applying a suture to the body tissue

A surgical instrument assembly particularly useful in endoscopic surgery includes a sleeve to be received on a user's finger and integrally formed at one side with a socket; and an elastic member formed at a mid-portion thereof with a pair of arms elastically-urged to a closed position to serve as a pair of forceps for grasping objects. The elastic member is further integrally formed at one end with a mounting strip folded to overlie said pair of arms for mounting the elastic member within said socket, and at the opposite with a finger-engageable strip folded to underlie said pair of arms. The finger-engageable strip terminates in a cam element movable by the elasticity of the elastic member between said pair of arms to cam them apart to an open position to release a grasped object.

Finger mounting for surgical instruments particularly useful in open and endoscopic surgery

An implement for manipulating a knotted suture during a surgical procedure, includes an elongated shaft having a proximal end engageable by the user for manipulating the instrument, and a distal end engageable with the knotted suture to be manipulated. The distal end of the elongated shaft has an end face formed with a recess for receiving the knot of the suture. The distal end of the elongated shaft is formed with an open slot starting from a location spaced from the end face and leading to the recess in the end face, such as to enable the knotted suture to be introduced into the slot and the recess by effecting a sidewise movement. The implement further includes a tubular cutter member enclosing the elongated shaft and formed with an annular cutting edge engageable with a suture in the open slot of the shaft upon movement of the elongated shaft with respect to the tubular cutter member, or by vice-versa.

Suture manipulating and cutting implement

An implement for orientating a tool at a predetermined angle with respect to a plane of a target surface to be engaged by the tool includes a rod having a distal end coupled to a head formed with three contact points arranged in a circular array around the longitudinal axis of the rod, such that the three contact points define a plane. The rod is coupled to the head with the longitudinal axis of the rod at the predetermined angle to the plane defined by the three contact points, such that when the three contact points of the rod are in contact with the target surface, the longitudinal axis of the rod is at the predetermined angle with respect to the plane of the target surface. The implement is described particularly for orientating a surgical cutting tool perpendicularly to bone tissue for harvesting and implanting a bone plug to repair damaged bone tissue.

A biological vessel suspending assembly is provided. The assembly includes a sling element and at least one anchoring device being attached to at least one end of the sling element, the at least one anchoring device being capable of self anchoring into a tissue to thereby enable suspension of the biological vessel from the sling element, wherein at least a portion of the sling element engaging the biological vessel is configured as a tubular sleeve-like structure capable of rolling upon the biological vessel thus decreasing the likelihood of frictional damage caused by movements of the biological vessel or the sling element at service.

Biological vessel suspending assembly and systems and methods utilizing same

A suturing instrument includes a jaw and a pivotally mounted puncturer to be located on opposite sides of the tissue to be sutured. The suture is applied while the puncturer is in an open position on one side of the jaw, and the needle is then pivoted to a closed position through an opening in the jaw to pierce the tissue and to bring a portion of the suture to the opposite side of the jaw. At the opposite side of the jaw, a crochet head is actuated to engage the suture and to clamp it to the jaw as the puncturer is pivoted back to its open position.

Suturing instrument and method

A grasper-cutter instrument for a resecting procedure including (a) an elongated shaft; (b) a stationary jaw connected at a distal end of the elongated shaft; (c) a rotating jaw connected at the distal end of the elongated shaft; (d) a grasp-release mechanism for rotating the rotating jaw in relation to the shaft and the stationary jaw to thereby actuate grasp and release relations of the stationary and rotating jaws; (e) a translating blade extending along a side of the shaft, the blade having a blade end and being translatable from a retracted position to an extended position in which the blade end is extended substantially up to distal ends of the stationary and rotating jaws; and (f) a retracting-extending mechanism for translating the blade from its retracted position to its extended position, and back. A hook-cutter instrument for dissecting procedures including (a) an elongated shaft, the elongated shaft being formed with a guiding groove for engaging a translating blade; (b) a fenestrated hook being formed at a distal end of the elongated shaft; (c) a translating blade having a blade end extending along the shaft being engaged in, and translatable along, the guiding groove from a retracted position to an extended position in which the blade end is extended substantially up to a distal end of the fenestrated hook; and (d) a retracting extending mechanism for translating the blade from its retracted position to its extended position, and back.

Surgical instruments for operating on joints

An arthroscopic surgical apparatus for a minimum invasive surgery of the joint is provided. The apparatus includes: (a) a shaft member for insertion into a patient's body, the shaft member featuring a groove for receiving an operating rod therein; (b) a movable operating rod received within the shaft member; (c) a first jaw member connected to the shaft member; and a second jaw member connected to the operating rod, the jaw members for operating a body portion of a patient, the first and second jaw members being inter-connected by means of a jaw pivot; (d) a first handle connected to the shaft member; and a second handle connected to the operating rod, the handles for holding by a user, the first and second handles are inter-connected by means of a handle pivot. The apparatus preferably includes a blocking member for determining a maximal opening of the first and second handles, thereby determining a maximal opening of the first and second jaw members. The second handle is preferably connected to the operating rod by means of a readily replaceable shear pin received within two accommodating members such as screws. A color-coded identification system is provided wherein each tip member configuration is marked by a characteristic hand color and each shaft member configuration is marked by a characteristic knob color.
