An optical switching device () includes a substrate () and first and second optical waveguides () having respective first and second tapered ends (), which are fixed on the substrate in mutual proximity one to another. A pair of electrodes () is disposed on the substrate with a gap therebetween. A cantilever beam () is disposed on the substrate within the gap and configured to deflect transversely between first and second positions within the gap in response to a potential applied between the electrodes. A third optical waveguide () is mounted on the cantilever beam and has a third tapered end () disposed between the first and second tapered ends of the first and second waveguides, so that the third tapered end is in proximity with the first tapered end when the cantilever beam is in the first position and is in proximity with the second tapered end when the cantilever beam is in the second position.

Adiabatic optical switch using a waveguide on a MEMS cantilever

An optical device includes a first waveguide having a longitudinal axis and a first end facet inclined at a non-normal angle to the longitudinal axis, and a second waveguide, which has a second end facet and is fixed with the second end facet in proximity to and parallel with the first end facet. An actuator is coupled to move the first end facet of the first waveguide in a direction transverse to the longitudinal axis between a first position in which a distance between the first and second end facets is less than 25 nm, and a second position in which the distance between the first and second end facets is greater than 300 nm.

A walker device for lifting and supporting a body of a person is provided. The walker device includes a structure having a first side member and a second side member, the first side member and the second side member are configured to be disposed on a vertical surface and extend upwards, and a top member coupling the first and second side member to one another at a top portion thereof, such that at least a bottom portion of the first side member is disposed at distance from a bottom portion of the second side member. The walker device further includes a lift coupled to the top portion and having a gripping member disposed between the first and second side members and configured to be displaced up and down by the lift.

An Optical Access Network, a Optical Network Unit (ONU) and various methods for exchanging information are provided. The method may include: receiving, by the ONU, a pilot signal and down-stream information signals; wherein the pilot signal is received at a pilot frequency slot and the downstream information signals are received at a downstream information frequency slot; wherein the ONU is allocated with a spectral slice that comprises the pilot frequency slot, the downstream information frequency slot, a guard frequency slot and an upstream information frequency slot; wherein at least one other spectral slice is allocated for exchanging information with at least one other group of ONUs; splitting the downstream information signals to downstream information signals portions; splitting the pilot signals to pilot signals portions; detecting downstream information, in response to at least a first portion of downstream information signals; modulating a portion of the pilot signal by upstream information signals to provide upstream information signals that are within the upstream information frequency slot; modulating a second portion of the downstream information signals by the upstream information signals to provide upstream secondary signals that are outside the pilot frequency slot, the downstream information frequency slot and the upstream information frequency slot; and upstream transmitting the upstream information signals and the upstream secondary signals.

Optical network unit, optical access network and a method for exchanging information

A photonically assisted analog to digital conversion (ADC) system is presented. The system comprises: an optical sampling signal generator configured and operable for generating an optical sampling signal comprising a predetermined sampling pulse sequence in the form of a time separated pulse train of spectral components dispersed in a periodic fashion, where each pulse is distinguishable by a central wavelength thereof different from its neighboring pulses. The generation of the pulse sampling sequence is achieved by combining broadband dispersion and compensation with a periodic dispersion compensator having a free spectral range smaller than the broad bandwidth of the ultrashort pulse. The second innovative element is the introduction of coherent detection with oversampling of the interference terms of the phase modulated pulse sampling sequence and a reference pulse. The over-sampling provides additional measurements of the beat term and by way of error minimization a more reliable phase estimation is provided, translated into a more accurate conversion to digital representation. The system further comprises an electro-optical modulator for interacting an input electric analog signal and an optical sampling signal and generating a modulated optical signal indicative of said input signal; and a detection system configured and operable for receiving said modulated optical signal and generating an output digital signal corresponding to said input electric analog signal.

System and method for photonically assisted analog to digital signal conversion

An optical switching system is disclosed. The system comprises: input optics, for receiving light from at least one input optical port and separating the light into a plurality of optical channels to assign a separate optical path to each channel of each input optical port. The system further comprises an input steering array and an output steering array arranged such that the input steering array is imaged onto the output steering array, wherein the input steering array is configured to receive the separated light and steer each optical channel to an individual element of the output steering array. The system further comprises output optics, for receiving the optical channels from the output steering array and coupling the optical channels into at least one output optical port.
