Integrated vacuum port module

An air cleaner assembly and an air induction system for an internal combustion engine. The air cleaner assembly preferably is formed using first and second housing members that are assembled to define an interior volume. A hydrocarbon adsorber is located within air induction system, e.g., within the interior volume of the air cleaner assembly. The hydrocarbon adsorber is positioned outside of the main air flow within a recess formed in a wall of one of the housing members. A purge channel is formed in the interior wall that houses the hydrocarbon adsorber. Air flow through the air induction system passes via the purge channel through the hydrocarbon adsorber. By facilitating air flow through the hydrocarbon adsorber that is positioned outside of the main airflow, the hydrocarbon adsorber is self-regenerating and does not have to be replaced over the lifetime of the vehicle as a result of hydrocarbon build-up.

An air intake manifold assembly for an internal combustion engine composed of a plurality of molded synthetic resin shells assembled to each other so as to define a plenum chamber, a plurality of inlet channels leading from said plenum chamber to cylinder inlets of the internal combustion engine, and a throttle body passageway leading from a throttle body mount into the plenum chamber; with a groove formed in a surface of at least one of the shells facing an adjacent shell and extending from an inlet opening to the throttle body passageway or the plenum chamber so as to form an elongate passage between the assembled shells leading from the inlet to the throttle body passage or plenum chamber, and a method of forming such an intake manifold assembly.

An intake manifold with variable intake tract configurations for an internal combustion engine is provided, wherein pairs of long and short intake runners are located between inlet plenum chambers and respective manifold outlets, and a rotary valve located between a manifold wall and a row of short intake runners is selectively movable between a first position isolating the short runners from the intake air and isolating the inlet plenum chambers from one another, a second position isolating the short runners from the intake air while permitting communication between the plenum chambers, and a third position permitting the short runners to draw air directly from the plenum chambers. The resulting manifold provides a space- and cost-efficient mechanism for providing variable intake tract configurations, and eases accommodation of other design requirements in the design of the manifold.

Intake manifold for an engine and method of controlling intake air flow

An integrated engine compartment component for housing vehicle support system components in a vehicle engine compartment, which is divided by shared partition walls into a plurality of vehicle support system component-containing sections, each either forming or containing a component of a vehicle support system. In one embodiment, the integrated engine compartment component includes an air intake system filtration section containing a filter element, an air intake acoustic resonator section in two-way communication with an outlet of the air filtration section, and a washer fluid reservoir section feeding a windshield or headlight washer nozzle. An acoustic chamber may be integrated into the component outer surface, e.g., to use vehicle fluids stored therein to dampen noise and to provide additional fluid working volume. Integration of vehicle support system components into a single integrated component offers significant savings in under-hood engine compartment space and materials, manufacturing, installation, servicing and recycling costs.
