A dental instrument, suitable for use when creating a dental filling, is provided. The dental instrument includes a wedge and a matrix. The matrix is fixedly attached to the wedge, and the wedge is adapted to be inserted into the approximal space between two teeth of a patient. The wedge has a bow shape along a length axis of the wedge, the matrix has a first bow shape along a length axis of the matrix, and the matrix also has a second bow shape along an axis perpendicular to the length axis of the matrix. A method of using the dental instrument and a disposable system, which further comprises a protective member, is further provided.

Dental instrument

A dental instrument is provided for removing caries attacked dentine in connection with chemical-mechanical treatment of caries by means of a caries-dissolving solution applied to the caries for loosening the caries tooth substance. The instrument comprises a tool head with a number of scraping edges or bristles for scraping away the loosened caries tooth substance. In the spacings formed therebetween drops of the gel solution used for the chemical-mechanical treatment can be carried (transported) up to the tooth treatment site. The instrument is power-driven in order to provide the tool head with a predetermined scraping motion.

The invention relates to a preparation for use in chemical-mechanical treatment of caries in the form of a two-component caries dissolving liquid in which one of the components consists of sodium hypochlorite and the other component of amino acids, preferably three amino-acids with different charge states; one neutral, one with a negative net charge and one with a positive net charge. A viscosity increasing substance in the form of 3% carboxy methyl cellulose, or any other polysaccharide, as well as a coloring agent, 0.04% Erythrosin, which is able to interact with carious tooth substance has been added to the amino acid component. This means that less liquid is spent, the liquid becomes easier to control and handle and the suspended material becomes more visible.

The invention relates to a preparation for use in chemical-mechanical treatment of caries in the form of a two-component caries dissolving liquid in which one of the components consists of sodium hypochlorite and the other component of a substance with the ability to reduce the aggressive influence of sodium hypochlorite on mucous membranes. The other component is a gel component which consists of a gel substance without any amino acids or a gel substance mixed with one or more amino acids.

In a method of preparing a class II dental filling of a light-hardening filling material in a drilled-out tooth surrounded by a matrix band, the drilled-out tooth is filled with a light-hardening filling material in which the lower part of a light-transmitting adapter having a recess and attached to a light conductor, is pushed down into a filling material so that light is spread in the deeper parts of the filling, while at the same time the lower part of the adapter is pressed against the point of contact of the adjacent tooth while the filling is hardened so that satisfactory approximal contact is obtained. A light-transmitting adapter comprises an upper part having a recess for receiving a light conductor and a conical lower part adapted to conduct light-hardening filling material down into a drilled-out tooth. The lower part of the adapter is pressed against a matrix band surrounding the tooth so that satisfactory approximal contact with the adjacent tooth is obtained, while at the same time the deeper parts of the filling are made accessible to light from the light conductor.

A retainer for securing in position a matrix band around a tooth comprises a body having an upper and a lower end surface, a through-bore which extends between the end surfaces and accommodates a spindle which is rotatable in the body and around which the matrix band can be wound and which has an axial slit starting from the proximal end of the spindle with respect to the lower end surface of the body and arranged for receiving the matrix band, a peripheral surface which is adapted to be applied against a tooth and has a first recess conformed to a first type of tooth, and a first channel which extends through the lower end surface, the first recess and the bore in order to permit the insertion of the matrix band in the channel and in the slit of the spindle from the lower end surface. The peripheral surface also has a second recess which is conformed to a second type of tooth. A second channel extends through the lower end surface, the second recess and the bore.
