Disclosed is a method of selecting stimulations for a cochlear implant or an auditory implant. The method may include: capturing an acoustical signal; dividing the acoustical signal into a plurality of frequency bands; determining a mean acoustical energy for each frequency band; for each frequency band: comparing the mean acoustical energy with the mean acoustical energy determined for neighboring frequency bands; merging neighboring frequency bands having a difference between the mean acoustical energies that is less than an acoustical energy threshold value; selecting one or more types of stimulation to be applied to one or more locations in a cochlea or along an auditory nerve based on bandwidths of each frequency band. The one or more types of stimulation may be selected from: electrical stimulation, optical stimulation and opto-electrical stimulation, and the one or more locations in cochlea or along the auditory nerve may correspond to specific frequencies of the acoustical signal.

System and method for cochlear implant stimulation

An apparatus for non-invasive directional tissue treatment comprises an energy source and an array of energy delivery elements placed in a predetermined order defining a tissue treatment area such that tissue tightening obtained is higher in a first direction than in a second direction of the two-dimensional array.

Apparatus and method of non-invasive directional tissue treatment

Some embodiments of the invention may be related to an apparatus for non-invasive directional tissue treatment. The apparatus includes a radiofrequency (RF) generator and an array of RF energy delivery elements in monopolar configuration, in active communication with the RF generator, at least one of: a return electrode and a return pad, and a power source and a controller. In some embodiments, each of the RF energy delivery elements comprises a monopolar electrode such that each monopolar electrode has a first dimension and a second dimension, the first dimension perpendicular to the second dimension. In some embodiments, the first dimension of each monopolar electrode and the distance between the monopolar electrodes in each pair are configured to create an elongated heated volume of tissue when the RF generator is activated and at least one of the RF delivery elements is in contact with the tissue.

Some embodiments of the invention may be related to an apparatus for non-invasive directional tissue treatment. The apparatus includes a radiofrequency (RF) generator and an array of RF energy delivery elements in active communication with the RF generator, a power source and a controller. In some embodiments, each of the RF energy delivery elements comprises a pair of electrodes with opposite polarity such that each electrode has a first dimension and a second dimension, the first dimension perpendicular to the second dimension and to an imaginary line connecting the pair of electrodes to each other. In some embodiments, the first dimension of each electrode and the distance between the electrodes in each pair are configured to create an elongated heated volume of tissue when the RF generator is activated and at least one of the RF delivery elements is in contact with the tissue.

Apparatus and method of non-invasive directional tissue treatment using radiofrequency energy

Treatment systems are provided, which comprise a treatment element applying a treatment to a tissue, a stimulation element optically stimulating nerves in the tissue, a sensing unit sensing an electrical signal produced by nerves in the tissue in response to the optical stimulation, and a control unit controlling the application of the treatment according to the sensed signal. The systems and methods are used to avoid damaging nerves by sensing them during operation and immediately before local treatment application and preventing energy emission when the treatment tool is too close to specified nerves. Additional electric stimulation may be provided to enable avoidance of nerve damages on a larger scale, the treatment may be applied by a cold laser, and the control unit may control the treatment in realtime and in a closed loop and immediate prevent further treatment upon sensing optically stimulated nerves.

Nerve sparing treatment systems and methods

Some embodiments of the invention include a method for analyzing spatial measuring data. The method may include an evaluation process with a multitude of measurement processes that are timely and/or spatially distributed over the elements of a set of one, two or a multitude of basically identical items, the items each having one or more features. In some embodiments, the multitude of measurement processes include at least a first and a second measurements of spatial data by means of at least one sensor system comprising at least one sensor. In some embodiments, each measurement of spatial data comprises providing a sensor reference system for each sensor, and measuring and/or extrapolating one or more spatial values of the features of an item of the set of items by means of the at least one sensor.
