An automobile vehicle split torque transmission includes an electrical motor having a rotor drive shaft with a drive pinion attached to the rotor drive shaft, the rotor drive shaft defining a first axis. A first transfer gear is mounted on a first transfer gear shaft defining a second axis, the first transfer gear meshed with the drive pinion. A second transfer gear is mounted on a second transfer gear shaft defining a third axis, the second transfer gear meshed with the drive pinion. A differential ring gear is supported on a differential shaft and rotates a differential assembly, the differential shaft defining a fourth axis.

Compact split torque transmission for wide overall ratio coverage

A guide pin assembly for a CVT variator includes a retainer and a guide pin coupled to the retainer. The retainer provides at least three functions for the guide pin: pilot, orientation and retention. The guide pin provides lateral and axial constraints to a chain guide through which a chain extends.

A multi-mode continuously variable transmission (CVT) for a motor vehicle includes a transmission input member, a transmission output member, a planetary gear set, a forward clutch, a brake, and a continuously variable unit having a first pulley, a second pulley, and an endless member wrapped around the first pulley and the second pulley. A first transfer gear set is connected to the transmission output member. A second transfer gear set is connected to the transmission output member. A dual clutch assembly is provided having a first clutch and a second clutch, wherein the first clutch selectively connects the second pulley to the first transfer gear set and the second clutch selectively connects the second pulley to the second transfer gear set. The dual clutch assembly provides two modes or ranges of continuously variable speed ratios between the transmission input member and the transmission output member.

Multi-mode continuously variable transmission with selectable transfer gears

A transmission is provided having an input member, an output member, four planetary gear sets, a plurality of coupling members and a plurality of torque transmitting devices. The torque transmitting devices include clutches and brakes including a selectable one-way clutch actuatable in combinations of two to establish a plurality of forward gear ratios and one reverse gear ratio.

Multi-speed transmission

A transmission has an input member, an output member, at least four planetary gear sets, a plurality of coupling members and a plurality of torque transmitting devices. Each of the planetary gear sets includes first, second and third members. The torque transmitting devices include clutches and brakes actuatable in combinations of two to establish a plurality of forward gear ratios and one reverse gear ratio.

Multi-speed planetary gear set transmission

A transmission of the present invention has an input member, an output member, four planetary gear sets, a plurality of coupling members and a plurality of torque transmitting devices. Each of the planetary gear sets includes first, second and third members. The torque transmitting devices include clutches and brakes. The torque transmitting devices are each selectively engageable in combinations of at least two to establish a plurality forward speed ratios and at least one reverse speed ratio.

A planetary transmission includes a plurality of planetary gearsets. The planetary gearsets have a lubrication system comprised of pinion pins secured in side plates and central passages located within the pinion pins. The central passages or cavities have radially outwardly disposed fluid passages, which supply fluid lubrication to support bearings for the pinion pins of the respective planetary gearsets. Lubrication fluid is communicated into the cavities when thrust loads are imposed on the planetary gearsets and the thrust bearings disposed between adjacent planetary gearsets reduces the flow area for the lubrication fluid.

Power transmission lubrication system

A powertrain includes a continuously variable transmission having a starting mechanism, a continuously variable unit (CVU), and a pair of planetary gear arrangements. The continuously variable transmission also includes a plurality of torque transmitting mechanisms which are selectively engageable in combinations of two to establish a reverse mode of operation between the starting mechanism and a transmission output shaft, a low direct mode of operation, an intermediate split mode of operation, and a high split mode of operation.

A traction drive transmission that operates in a geared neutral condition includes coaxial input and output shafts and a traction drive unit connected to the input shaft. A first gearset has a first carrier attached to the input shaft and the drive unit, a first sun gear attached to the drive unit, and a first ring gear. A second gearset has a second sun gear, a second carrier attached to the first ring gear and a second ring gear attached to the first carrier. A third gearset has a third sun gear attached to the second sun gear, a third carrier and a third ring gear. A first clutch is operative to drivably connect the second carrier and one of the output shaft and the third carrier. A second clutch is operative to brake one of the third carrier and the third ring gear.

Traction drive transmission

A powertrain has a multi-ratio power transmission having three axially aligned simple planetary gear sets each of which has a sun gear member, a ring gear member and a planet carrier assembly member. The planetary gear sets are connected between an input shaft and an output shaft by a plurality of radially extending hubs at least four of which are connected with axially extending sleeves. The hubs are disposed axially between the planetary gear sets. The sleeves are disposed radially outboard of the planetary gear sets and are operatively connected with a plurality of torque transmitting mechanisms, also disposed radially outboard of said planetary gear sets, that are selectively operatively controlled to establish six forward drive ratios and one reverse drive ratio between the input shaft and the output shaft. The planet carrier assembly member of the first planetary gear set is continuously connected with the ring gear member of the third planetary gear set. The ring gear member of the first planetary gear set is continuously connected with the input shaft. The sun gear members of the second and third planetary gear sets are continuously interconnected as are the ring gear member of the second planetary gear set and the planet carrier assembly member of the third planetary gear set. The planet carrier assembly member of the second planetary gear set is continuously connected with the output shaft.

Compact six speed power transmission

A powertrain has an engine and a transmission. The transmission provides six forward speed ratios and one reverse speed ratio between the engine and an output shaft of the transmission. The transmission has two compound planetary gear sets each having three rotatable members including a sun gear member, a ring gear member, and a planetary carrier assembly member. The ring gear member of one of the planetary gear sets is continuously connected with the output shaft. Each planetary gear set has at least two members that are connectable to receive power from the engine through selectively engageable rotating torque transmitting mechanism. One member of each planetary gear set are interconnected and operatively connected with a selectively engageable stationary torque transmitting mechanism to provide reaction members during the reverse speed ratio. Two additional selectively engageable stationary torque transmitting mechanisms are provided to establish reaction members in the other planetary gear set during five of the six forward speed ratios.

Powertrain with a multi-speed transmission

A multi-speed power transmission has five forward speeds and one reverse speed. The forward speeds consist of three underdrives, a direct drive and one overdrive. These speed ratios are produced with a simple planetary gearset, a compound planetary gearset, three input clutches, a combining clutch, a one-way clutch and two brake assemblies. Each of the brake assemblies incorporates a friction brake and a one-way brake. The combining clutch is disengaged in the low forward and reverse ratios and is engaged to connect the ring gears of the compound set with the carrier of the simple set. The one-way clutch is disposed between the ring gears of both sets to transmit rotation therebetween in an active capacity in the low forward ratio and no load capacity in the reverse ratio. In the second through fifth forward speeds, the one-way clutch permits relative rotation between the ring gears. The ring gear of the simple planetary gearset is continuously connected with the output shaft.

Five-speed power transmission

In a gas turbine engine, an annular flange of a ceramic scroll is clamped to an annular shoulder of a gas turbine engine housing by a plurality of nuts on thread rods extending perpendicular to the annular shoulder. A metal sleeve around each rod cooperates therewith in defining a coolant passage which is connected at one end to a source of compressed air and which discharges at the other end into a cooling chamber around the nuts through grooves in a surface of each nut. Air circulating in the coolant passages and through the cooling chamber cools and thermally shields the rods and the nuts.
