A sealable multi-layer opaque film. In particular, a sealable multi-layer opaque film that is moisture permeable and water resistant. The sealable multi-layer opaque film is an oriented multilayer film with a core layer comprising an orientation-enhancing polymer, a polypropylene homopolymer and a beta crystal nucleator of polypropylene and at least one sealable skin layer.

Sealable multi-layer opaque film

An opaque, sealable and peelable film, including at least (a) a cavitated first core layer containing a thermoplastic polymer and a cavitating agent, (b) a second core layer containing a peelable blend and (c) one or more outer layers, at least one of which is a sealable outer layer, each independently containing a thermoplastic polymer. The peelable blend of the second core layer (b) may contain (i) from 20-80 wt % of a polyethylene and (ii) from 80-20 wt % of a polyolefin incompatible with polyethylene (i), or it may contain (i) from 10-35 wt % of ethylene-&#x3b1;-olefin elastomer and (ii) from 90-65 wt % of propylene homopolymer.

Sealable and peelable film structure

A thermoplastic film containing a core layer and an enhanced printing skin layer. The core layer comprises an orientation enhancing polymer, a polypropylene homopolymer, and a beta-crystal nucleators of polypropylene. The thermoplastic film may be used to enhance printing and where breathable films with good water vapor transmission are desired.

Thermoplastic film

A sealable and peelable film, including at least (a) a core layer containing a peelable blend (b) a pair of outer layers, at least one of which is a sealable outer layer, each independently containing a thermoplastic polymer. The peelable blend of the core layer (a) may contain (i) from 20-80 wt % of a polyethylene and (ii) from 80-20 wt % of a polyolefin incompatible with polyethylene (i), or it may contain (i) from 10-35 wt % of ethylene-&agr;-olefin elastomer and (ii) from 90-65 wt % of propylene homopolymer. The film may also include an intermediate layer containing a propylene homopolymer, wherein the intermediate layer is positioned between the core layer containing the peelable blend and the sealable outer layer.

A polymeric label comprising a core layer comprising at least about 50% by weight of a linear ethylene alpha-olefin copolymer and at least about 5% by weight of a propylene copolymer; and a first skin layer comprising a propylene copolymer.

Polymeric labels

A back-up pad is provided over an anvil surface of a back-up plate, and between the anvil surface and a sealing surface of a sealing die, in an apparatus for forming seals between layers of film material. The back-up pad has a slip layer on one side thereof and a firm polymeric support layer on an opposite side thereof, the slip layer opposing the sealing face of the die so that the layers of film material pass between the sealing die and the back-up pad during seal formation. The polymeric support layer may have a Shore-A hardness of at least 10 at 20&deg; C. and a dynamic loss tangent of less than 0.1 from 20&deg; C. to 80&deg; C. An example of a support layer is a polycarbonate pad, and an example of slip layer is a glass cloth coated with Teflon&trade;. The back-up pad is particularly useful for forming lap seals in relatively thick film materials, such as laminated films having multi-layered films laminated together.

Opaque polymeric films cavitated with syndiotactic polystyrene

A metallized biaxially oriented film has at least one polypropylene layer and a metallized skin layer. This skin layer is formed from a blend of polymers including syndiotactic polypropylene. The polymer which is blended with the syndiotactic polypropylene may be a butylene-propylene copolymer or a graft copolymer of propylene and maleic anhydride. The film may include a separate non-metallized biaxially oriented film laminated to the metallized biaxially oriented film. The metal layer provides a barrier to oxygen and water vapor. The metallized film can be processed through package forming machines without damage to the metal barrier layer.

The present invention relates to multilayer laminates having controlled directional tearing in both the machine direction (MD) and the transverse direction (TD). It is desirable to have controlled tearing for use in connection with pouches or other packages having a reclose device. The laminate is made up of a biaxially oriented inner layer containing linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) and having a tensile elongation to break of less than 200% in the MD and less than 150% in the TD, an outer layer having a heat distortion temperature of at least 10&deg; C. higher than the inner layer and a tensile longation to break of less than 200% in the MD and less than 150% in the TD, and an adhesive layer containing an adhesive polymer sandwiched between the inner and outer layers and adhering the two layers to each other.

Controlled directional tear laminates

A multi-layer film has an improved composite structure for providing hermetic seals to packages manufactured in high speed packaging apparatus. The structure of the multi-layer film includes layers A/B/C/D. Skin layer A is formed from polypropylene copolymer with melt flow rate greater than one or linear high density polyethylene with melt index greater than one. Core layer B is formed from polypropylene. Intermediate layer C has the primary function of compliance during sealing, and sealing layer D has the primary function of providing adhesivity to the completed seal. The sealing layer D includes an antiblocking agent comprising non-distortable organic polymer particles having an average particle size greater than 6 microns

Multi-layer hermetically sealable film

A laminated film structure that includes a primary web having a migratory additive in a first outer layer and a metallocene polyethylene in a second outer layer that can be laminated to a secondary web without treating the surface of the second outer layer with a primer or solvent. The primary web further includes a core substrate layer disposed between the two outer layers that can include a biaxially oriented polypropylene. The laminated film structures have improved bond strength between the primary web and the secondary web.

Multi-layer film with enhanced lamination bond strength

The present invention relates to multilayer film which is heat sealable over a broad temperature range. It is desirable to have a broad sealing temperature range to increase the production of packaging machines. The present invention also relates to multilayer film which provides easy opening and hermetic seals to packages. The film is made up of a core layer comprising linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) and at least one skin layer having a melting point of at least 10&deg; C. below the core layer melting point.
