A system comprising a remotely programmable micromonitor with a wireless sensing system-on-module (SOM), one or more sensors to detect one or more conditions in a subject by monitoring one or more parameters associated with the conditions by comparing any monitored parameter to a baseline measurement of the monitored parameter from the subject, a plurality of sensors corresponding to a monitored parameter and connected to the micromonitor to convey measurements of all monitored parameters, the sensors including at least one of a non-optical pulse wave sensor or an electrocardiogram (ECG) sensor, a communications module capable of communicating with a wireless technology, wherein the module can send an alert signal to the subject or an attending physician or a remote service center or any other subject, and one or more algorithms for monitoring conditions and/or for predicting conditions, including at least one of a fall detection or fall prediction algorithm.

Remote physiological monitor

Non-obtrusive monitoring apparatus for detecting the emotional stress of attempted deception by a standing or seated subject. The apparatus has sensors for measuring parameters of posture, sway, weight distribution, cardiac function, and respiratory function, and outputs computer-readable data for processing and reporting. Also disclosed are: systems for synchronizing output data with information about questions asked of the subject as well as other interrogation stimuli administered to the subject; and systems for analyzing the output data and interrogation stimuli to identify patterns indicating heightened anxiety.

Detection of signs of attempted deception and other emotional stresses by detecting changes in weight distribution of a standing or sitting person

Apparatus and method for the early detection of increased performance impairment, incapacitation or drowsiness of a person, particularly of a person gripping an object such as a steering wheel. A wrist band is worn by the person and an electrical sensor is pressed against the person's skin by the band to sense physiological conditions by detecting various parameters at the wrist and analyzing them to provide an indication of the onset of drowsiness in the person. Some of the parameters analyzed include EMG, temperature, response to stimulation and muscular activity at the wrist. A description of a shock-absorbing wrist monitor is disclosed.

Method and apparatus for monitoring states of consciousness, drowsiness, distress, and performance

Improved methodology and apparatus for heart rate-related exercise through: (1) entering and storing and of user's age, as well as computing and storing of Maximal Heart Rate (MHR), (2) usage of programmable heart-rate target zone for benefit-specific training such as fat burning or strong heart, (3) computation of each target zone heart rate limits from the individualized age-related maximal heart rate, (e.g., specific fat-burning zone is 0.55 to 0.70 of the MHR for the specific user, and the strong heart zone is 0.7-0.85 of the MHR), (4) providing feedback of various exercise parameters (zone and time-in-zone, exercise elapsed time, etc.) through speech, (5) programming all the setup entry and feedback modes through a single push-button and 'scrolling speech' menu, (6) utilization of two microcomputers to converse battery power, (7) integration of the entire apparatus into a chest belt, (8) automatic power-off upon removal of apparatus from the body, (9) programming new setup entry and feedback modes through a single push-button and 'scrolling speech' menu via a preset combination of input pulses and input clicks.

Heart rate monitor with age-dependent target-zone feedback

A wrist worn device and method for monitoring and alerting the user of increased drowsiness. The device includes sensors for monitoring several physiological parameters of the user, including peripheral pulse rate variability, peripheral vasomotor response, muscle tone, peripheral blood flow and reaction time variability. If the majority of these parameters are indicative of increased drowsiness, and audio-visual alert is provided the user. The sensors are encased in a shock-absorbing unit and wirelessly transmit the sensed data.

Personal monitoring and alerting device for drowsiness

A device for detecting displacement of an object, particularly a chest belt for detecting respiration, includes an optical fibre having a light source at one end and a light-emitting face at the opposite end, a reflector device adjacent to and partially overlapping the light-emitting face of the optical fibre and movable with respect thereto to increase or decrease the amount of overlapping, a coupling for coupling the reflecting device to the object whose displacement is being detected, and a light sensor for sensing the amount of light reflected by the reflector back to the light-emitting face of the optical fibre and for outputting an electrical signal corresponding thereto.

Displacement detector device and method

A method and apparatus for monitoring a subject to detect the occurrence of apnea, wherein the respiration rate and amplitude of the subject is detected by a plurality of electrodes for a predetermined initial time interval of a plurality of breath to produce a measure of the average respiration volume of the subject, the latter measurement is stored, and is compared with the detected respiration rate and amplitude of the subject during subsequent time intervals. A signal is generated whenever a detected average volume falls below the reference average volume by a predetermined percentage.

Apnea monitoring apparatus

A system for measuring electrical impedance particularly of biological tissues to provide an indication of the condition of such tissue. The system comprises a source of constant-amplitude current and three pairs of electrodes, of which the first pair constitutes excitational electrodes, the second pair constitutes sensing electrodes, and the third pair constitutes focusing electrodes to focus the current flowing between the two excitation electrodes to the region occupied by the sensing electrodes. The system further includes synchronized switching means for alternately connecting the first group and the second group of electrodes to the excitation source.
