The present invention relates to a biopsy assembly for obtaining a tissue sample, comprising an outer tubular cannula provided with an oblique distal tip, and a stylet adapted to be disposed axially within said cannula and having an oblique distal tip. The stylet is provided with a recess arranged along a side of the stylet which is adapted to receive the tissue sample. The assembly further comprises a housing for guiding and manipulating the proximal ends of the cannula and the stylet and is provided with a rotating member configured to rotate the stylet or cannula around a common axis, such that the cannula and the stylet are rotated relative to one another. The rotating member is configured to rotate the stylet and cannula relative to one another prior to tissue sampling, such that a most distal edge of the oblique distal tip of said cannula is arranged at the same side as the recess when the tissue sampling is performed.

Biopsy device

A medical device is disclosed comprising an elongated needle assembly having a distal end, a proximal end and a longitudinal axis A, the needle assembly comprises a tubular cannula having a sharpened distal end, a proximal cannula portion, and a longitudinal bore along the longitudinal axis A, and a stylet configured to extend through the bore of the cannula, and having a blunt distal end and a proximal stylet portion. The needle assembly is provided with a spring member configured to urge the stylet in a distal direction along the longitudinal axis, such that the stylet is axially spring-biased in said distal direction. The medical device further comprises a connecting member configured to detachably attach said stylet to said cannula, wherein said stylet is configured to be attached to the tubular cannula by the connecting member such that the blunt distal end protrudes just beyond the sharpened distal end of the cannula when no force is applied to the distal end of the stylet in a proximal direction along said longitudinal axis, and wherein the connecting member is configured to enable detachment of the proximal portions from each other such that the stylet may be fully withdrawn from the longitudinal bore.

Medical device

Insertion tool for a medical closure device for the sealing of an opening in a wall of a bodily organ, comprising a tamping force source adapted to deliver a first member to a position at the opening on one side of the wall subsequently to a second member being positioned at the opening on the opposite side of the wall. The tamping force source, which is energized prior to the tamping procedure, can be a spring, an elastic band or a pressurized gas container. A tamping spring can be compressed or extended upon loading. The tamping force source can be released in response to a manual operation or be triggered by retraction of the insertion tool.

Insertion tool for a medical closure device

The invention is directed to a steerable mandrel comprising a stationary part and a movable part. The stationary part comprises a tubular sleeve having a mantle wall with a longitudinal semi-circumferential opening or weakening, which divides the stationary part into a proximal portion located on a proximal side of the longitudinal semi-circumferential opening or weakening and a distal portion located on distal side of the longitudinal semi-circumferential opening or weakening. The movable part comprises a rod-like member, which is slidable within the proximal portion of the stationary part. The movable part is attached to distal portion of the stationary part, such that relative movement of the movable part in relation to the stationary part causes a bending of the mandrel.

Steerable medical puncture instrument

An insertion tool for a medical closure device for the sealing of an opening in a wall of a bodily organ includes a tamping force source adapted to deliver a first member to a position at the opening on one side of the wall subsequently to a second member being positioned at the opening on the opposite side of the wall. The tamping force source, which is energized prior to the tamping procedure, can be a spring, an elastic band or a pressurized gas container. A tamping spring can be compressed or extended upon loading. The tamping force source can be released in response to a manual operation or be triggered by retraction of the insertion tool.

A tool () is provided for inserting and mating two plug members () of a sealing device () for closing a wound in the wall of a vessel by placing the distal plug member () of the sealing device inside the vessel and the proximal plug member () on the outside of the vessel. The distal plug member is provided with an elongated retracting means () extending from the distal plug member. The tool comprises a gear mechanism () coupled to the retracting means for converting a movement of the tool in a proximal direction away from the wound (), when the distal plug member is anchored in the vessel (), to a pushing movement for moving the proximal plug member in a direction towards the distal plug member in response to a stretching force in the retracting means.

Tool, a sealing device, a system and a method for closing a wound

The present invention provides a medical sealing device having a decreased risk that a fastening means, such as a suture or a multifilament, ruptures through the sealing device. Reinforced absorbable medical sealing device

Methods and systems related to sealing punctures in blood vessels (such as following an angio or PTCA procedure) are disclosed. The position of a distal end of an introducer assembly in tissue is determined using a pressure sensor. The pressure sensor is connected to the proximal end of the introducer assembly. The introducer assembly has a fluid path between its distal end and its proximal end. Measured blood pressure is outputted as an indication of the position of the distal end of the introducer assembly in the tissue. Proper positioning of a seal is confirmed by placing the introducer assembly such that its distal end is in tissue outside a puncture in a blood vessel wall and observing a characteristic of blood at the proximal end of the introducer assembly. In both techniques, a waveform of the blood pressure at the distal end of the introducer assembly may be displayed on a display to provide additional information to a surgeon as to the relative position of the components with respect to various tissues.

Technique to confirm correct positioning of arterial wall sealing device

Following a catheterization of the radial artery in the forearm, the flow of blood through to puncture wound has to be stopped. An adjustable radial artery compressor ( ) according to the invention comprises a support arm ( ) provided with a support pad ( ), a compressor arm ( ) provided with a compression pad ( ), and a pressure-adjusting means ( ) for adjusting the distance between the support pad ( ) and the compression pad ( ). When the adjustable radial artery compressor ( ) is arranged on the forearm of a patient, the support pad ( ) bears against a well-defined area at the upside of the radius bone while the compression pad ( ) presses against a well-defined area at the underside of the radius bone. With the pressure-adjusting means ( ) the compression pressure can be adjusted with high precision, and due to the well-defined contact surfaces, which minimize the risk of vein stasis, the compression pressure is constant irrespective of any movement of the hand or forearm.

Adjustable radial artery compressor

An intra-arterial occluder according to the invention exhibits a central elongated portion being comparatively stiff, e.g., by being thicker, and an outer rim portion being more flexible. The occluder is passed through the puncture, and is oriented such that the axis of the central portion is generally coaxial with the vessel. When retracted, the central portion will rest against the vessel wall at two diametrically opposed areas around the puncture, and along the length of the vessel. These areas represent the strongest areas around the puncture, and will therefore be able to safely carry the retracting force. At the same time, the thinner circumferential rim portion, which is easily foldable to fit into an insertion tool, adapts to the vessel wall and acts as an efficient sealing.

Intra-arterial occluder

A sealing device and a wound closure device includes a sealing device for closing a wound in a wall of a vessel. The objective of the invention is to provide a sealing device and a wound closure device which has enhanced tightening properties. This problem is solved by the sealing device comprising an elongated member, which constitutes or is coated by a suture wire, having a constant thickness along its lock portion, the thickness being greater than the opening of the second sealing member. The sealing device is infinitely variable lockable along the distal lock portion.
