Method of making a load sensor plate

A toot assembly for a weighing scale is provided including a base and an annular ring that is arranged in coaxial spaced relation to the base, and supported by a plurality of resilient beams that project radially outwardly from a portion of the base. Each of the resilient beams comprises a compound curve contour so that the plurality of resilient beams may twist and/or bend to take up and compensate for unwanted rotational moments or twisting torques that result from placement of the foot assembly on an uneven surface. A weighing scale is also provided incorporating the foregoing foot assemblies, and including a platform coupled to a mounting tray and including a weight determination assembly that is positioned between the platform and the mounting tray. A plurality of force transfer beams are arranged within the mounting tray so as to substantially support the platform and the mounting tray such that the mounting tray is isolated from a support surface. In this way, forces that are applied to the weighing scale by the placement of a load on the platform are transferred to the plurality of force transfer beams, without direct interaction between the mounting tray and the support surface.

A sensor plate for use in a load cell for use in an electronic scale comprising a planar first surface; a planar second surface opposite the first surface having a depression formed therein defining a flexure area; a load cavity formed in the second surface having a conical receptacle end for receiving a strut; and sensors disposed over the flexure area for generating a signal in response to a load applied to the loading cavity wherein the strut has a first conical projection end coupled to the conical receptacle end of the loading cavity and a second end coupled to a footer member such that the strut mechanically floats therebetween for providing the applied load at a substantially central position at the load cavity.

A modular scale adapted to receive a rigid platform for supporting a weight has a frame having a base and a pair of legs extending from the base. The scale has a plurality of support assemblies adapted to be carried by the frame. Each support has at least one sensor wherein each sensor is adapted to provide a reference value and an output relative to a portion of the weight received. A display shows a numerical value corresponding to the composite sensor value. In a preferred embodiment the frame is generally 'U'-shape. The frame defines a central open area between the legs, wherein legs from other modular scales can be placed in the central open area of the modular scale for shipping. Each of the legs has a foot projecting towards each other, and the support assemblies are carried by the feet and the base. The frame is made of a plastic and of a rib construction such that the frame is relatively light weight.

Modular weighing scale

A load cell for an electronic scale, which is capable of providing both load support and load measurement in a planar member. This is accomplished by configuring the load cell as a substantially flat circular plate having an E-shaped deflectable member defined therein. The E-shaped member includes three beams, at least one of which includes a sensor arrangement that responds to a load applied to the deflectable member by generating an electrical signal that is indicative of the load applied to the E-shaped member.

An electrical weighing scale for measuring the weight of a user having has a substantially transparent platform, a plurality of supports, and a display assembly. Piezoresistive sensors, disposed in the supports, change resistance in response to a change in the weight applied to the scale. The piezoresistive sensors include piezoresistive elements arranged in a half bridge structure that has been calibrated to provide zero balance, span matching and impedance normalization. The sensors are coupled in parallel to a display. The parallel arrangements produces a composite output signal that enables any number of sensors to be used in the scales design.

Electrical weighing scale

The present weight scale performs automated self calibration by periodically initiating a measurement operation to determine the zero offset from a true weight reading due the weight scale's intrinsic weight. The weight scale's intrinsic weight will vary due to changes in environmental conditions such as temperature and humidity, which impact the behavior of the internal electronics that perform the weight measurement operations. The automated self calibration is provided by a counter circuit, clocked by a low power oscillator, that periodically initiates the weight scale's electronics to undertake a weight measurement of the tare weight value of the scale. The tare weight value is stored in memory until replaced by a subsequent tare weight value calculation. During a weight measurement operation the gross weight measurement is deducted by the tare weight value stored in memory to arrive at a net weight representing a user's true weight.

An indoor/outdoor thermometer system employs a wireless infrared telemetry link. An outdoor unit capable of being mounted on or in proximity to a window is equipped with a processor and modulation means to enable measurement of outdoor temperature and conversion to modulated data pulses. The data pulses are coded to provide noise immunity. The data is transmitted in a free space infrared medium and detected by an indoor unit which displays the outdoor temperature. The indoor unit is mounted in a suitable convenient indoor location. Indoor temperature may also be measured and displayed. An internal timing data transmission feature is employed to drastically reduce power consumption, enabling long lasting lithium type batteries to be deployed as the power source.

A portable electric power tool having a DC motor for driving tool bit is controlled according to speed and torque by employing a zero displacement switch means which is coupled to the tool and operative to provide an output voltage porportional to the pressure applied to the switch means via the hand of the user. The zero displacement switch interfaces with a piezoresistive array which produces a voltage output proportional to the pressure applied to the zero displacement switch. The voltage output of the array is applied to control circuit means which are coupled to the motor and which controls the speed of the motor according to the pressure applied to the switch. There is further included motor control circuitry which operates to monitor the current through the DC motor to control the speed of the motor according to the torque imparted upon the tool bit being accommodated by the portable electric tool.

Electronic scale apparatus is provided wherein a force collecting lever system, disposed within a base, receives forces imposed upon a cover for that base from force communicating members disposed near peripheral locations on the cover. At each of the peripheral locations the cover is biasingly attached to the base to prevent instability of the cover or displacement thereof as a result of forces imposed on the cover. The forces imposed on the lever system by the force communicating members are collected, concentrated at a point and transmitted to a force collecting beam where the force is applied to a transducer beam having a transducer thereon where the precisely collected resultant force is measured.
