A system and computer program product produces an output document in any of several formats including any of several page description languages, from a file, in response to server side code.

Interfacing communication between a non-hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP) event source and an application server function is described by calling a listener method to detect one or more events received from a non-HTTP event source. Data from the events is extracted and assembled into an application server event (AS Event) message. The AS Event message is transmitted to the application server function, which uses data from the AS Event to process its functionality. Resulting information may be sent to a communication method, which formats a message for the non-HTTP event source using the resulting information. This formatted message is then communicated to the non-HTTP event source. The interfaced communication may be initiated either by the non-HTTP event source or the application server function.

System and method for producing documents in a page description language in response to a request made to a server

An output document may be produced from a Web source document by including special markup or output indicators designating output regions in said source document. After detecting the output indicators, any dynamic markup in the Web source document is resolved. An HTML stream is generated that includes the resolved dynamic markup and is then rendered in memory on an internal HTML viewer. The internally rendered HTML is mapped into a print object. Depending on the format of the output document desired, a document transform object is selected that uses the print object to create the output document in the selected format.
