A power take-off includes an input mechanism that is disposed within an input mechanism housing and is adapted to be connected to a source of rotational energy. A clutch assembly is disposed within a driveshaft housing and is adapted to be connected to a rotatably driven accessory. A driveshaft connects the input mechanism to the clutch assembly. The driveshaft may be disposed within the driveshaft housing, which also forms a housing for the clutch assembly.

A hydraulically operated shifter for use in a power take-off includes a shifter housing having an interior, a fluid port, and an opening. A shifter piston is disposed within the interior of the shifter housing and is movable in first and second directions. The shifter piston defines first and second chambers within the interior of the shifter housing. The fluid port communicates with the first chamber, and the opening communicates with the second chamber. The shifter piston includes a passageway that provides communication between the first and second chamber defined within the interior of the shifter housing. A shift actuator is supported on the shifter piston for movement therewith and extends through the opening provided in the shifter housing.

Hydraulically operated shifter for power take-off

A power take-off includes an axially movable bearing that facilitates the assembly of the power take-off without the use of shims or other axial adjustment devices. The power take-off includes a housing, an input mechanism that is supported for rotation on the housing, and an output mechanism that is supported for rotation on the housing. A clutch assembly is provided that is operable in either a disengaged mode, wherein the input mechanism is not connected to rotatably drive the output mechanism, and an engaged mode, wherein the input mechanism is connected to rotatably drive the output mechanism. An actuating mechanism is provided for selectively operating the clutch assembly in the engaged and disengaged modes. The actuating mechanism including a bearing assembly that is supported on the input mechanism and is axially movable to selectively operate the clutch assembly in the engaged and disengaged modes.

Improvement in a drag brake assembly for a power take-off unit, for use on trucks and the like, including a first reaction member axially located on an output shaft thereon; a brake disc rotatably affixed to and axially movable on the output shaft; a second reaction member forming an inner surface portion of one of the bearing caps; and a spring member interposed between the first reaction member and the brake disc, for normally biasing the brake disc into an engaged position wherein the brake disc engages the second reaction member inner surface portion, with the brake disc including a first frusto-conical outer surface portion and the second reaction member inner surface being provided with a complementary second frusto-conical surface, with the engagement therebetween keeping the output shaft from rotating.
