Process and device for the transport of granular solids with a controlled flow rate, in particular for the transport of catalyst in a hydrocarbon reforming unit. The device comprises a gravity-feed pipe (A) for solid particles in the dense phase, a pneumatic transport pipe (C) in the dilute phase, and an inclined transfer pipe (B) that connects, without a buffer space, the base of the feed pipe to the pneumatic transport pipe, whereby this transfer pipe comprises means () for injection of a secondary gas located at the junction between the feed pipe and the transfer pipe.

A separator and process for separating particles from a gaseous mixture wherein the separator includes: at least one chamber comprising a zone (1) which forms a rectangular or square cross section for passage of the mixture circulating in a tube reactor (R) towards a turning zone (3) which rotates the mixture in a vertical plane through an angle of at most 360 degrees; an external wall (30) which defines the turn through an angle of 70 to 225 degrees; a deflection (10) which turns co-axially with the external wall (30) through an angle of at least 30 degrees and at most the angle through which the external wall turns plus 90 degrees; a gas outlet (4) which is coaxial with the turning zone; the separator is indirectly or otherwise connected to a secondary cyclone (12). It also includes a particle outlet (9) having a wall (32) connected to forming zone (1).

In order to measure for example the velocity of particles moving within various pipes or enclosures (1), such as catalyst balls circulating in continuous reforming plants, a channel (2) with a section suited to that of the particles, connected to a source of fluid of determined flow rate (4), opens therein and the pressure variations in this channel, resulting from the flow of the particles circulating past the end thereof, which modify the free flowing of the fluid towards the pipe, are measured. The particle velocity is notably determined through an auto-correlation of the signal translating the pressure variations by means of a processing system (6). Two fluid-fed channels (7, 8) may also open onto two different locations along the pipe and, through a crosscorrelation of the signals translating respectively the pressure variations, the velocity and the section of the circulating particles may for example be determined.
