The invention relates to a temperature control system for additive manufacturing and method for same. The temperature control system comprises: a cladding device configured to fuse a material and form a cladding layer, the cladding device comprising a first energy source; a micro-forging device coupled to the cladding device for forging the cladding layer; a detecting device; a control module; and an adjusting module coupled to at least one of the first energy source and the micro-forging device.

The second temperature is less than the first temperature and a roughness of the processed surface is less than the roughness of the initial surface.

The manufacturing method includes thermally processing a first semiconductor assembly comprising a first semiconductor layer disposed on a first support and thermally processing a second semiconductor assembly comprising a second semiconductor layer disposed on a second support. The article includes a heat source, a heat-sink, and a thermal interface element having a plurality of freestanding nanosprings, a top layer, and a bottom layer. The nanosprings, top layer, and the bottom layers of the article include at least one inorganic material. The article can be prepared using a number of methods including the methods such as GLAD and electrochemical deposition.

An article coated with a highly durable, wetting resistant coating is provided. The article comprises a coating that comprises a cermet material. The cermet material includes a nickel-bearing metal matrix and a phase disposed within the matrix. The phase includes an anion moiety, for example nitrogen, carbon, or boron; and a cation moiety, for example chromium, zirconium, titanium, vanadium, hafnium, niobium, or tantalum. The phase is present in the cermet at a level of at least about 5 volume %.

The transparent window layer includes cadmium sulfide and oxygen. The device has a fill factor of greater than about 0.65. Articles transparent to infrared radiation and resistant to impact and wear are provided. The article comprises a substrate and a composite coating disposed over the substrate and extending from an interface with the substrate to an external surface. The composite coating comprises a first phase and a second phase. The second phase has a higher resistance to erosive wear than the first phase. The coating comprises a compositional gradient proceeding from a first composition at the interface of the coating with the substrate to a second composition at the external surface, the first composition comprising a higher concentration of the first phase than that of the second composition.

Robust window for infrared energy

The present invention provides methods for manufacturing an article having a wetting-resistant surface. The method includes providing a mixture comprising a plurality of micron-sized first particles and a plurality of nano-sized second particles, and a binder; depositing the mixture onto a substrate to form a wetting-resistant surface via a thermal spray process. The mixture is deposited without substantial melting of the first and second particles. The wetting-resistant surface has wettability sufficient to generate, with a reference fluid, a static contact angle of greater than about 90 degrees.

The invention provides coatings to achieve the best accommodation of chemical, physical, and mechanical properties desired in high performance and reliable glass molding and forming tools. The substrate material can be any ordinary die or tool material such as cast iron, stainless steel, platinum, tungsten carbide and silicon. A simple coating architecture consisting of a titanium adhesion layer and a Ni&#x2014;Al&#x2014;N or Ti&#x2014;B&#x2014;C&#x2014;N working layer is provided. A NiAl working layer can meet the requirements of wear resistance in which abrasive and/or erosive wear is relatively low, while a Ti&#x2014;B&#x2014;C&#x2014;N working layer is sufficient for processes operating at relatively low temperature or in vacuum or a protective environment. The coating architectures, from the coating/substrate interface to the outer most surface of the coating include an inner adhesion layer, an outer working layer and, optionally, one or more functionally graded material layers. The invention also provides methods of making these coatings.

A bearing assembly mounted in an x-ray tube includes a bearing race and a plurality of bearing balls positioned adjacent to the bearing race. The plurality of bearing balls are positioned within a bearing cage. The bearing cage is configured to evenly space the bearing balls within the bearing cage and prevent contact between adjacent bearing balls, thereby eliminating the problems of skidding wear and dynamic impact load between adjacent bearing balls in the bearing assembly.
