The present invention is directed to a high-pressure bi-directional sealing system having circumferentially extending outer support rings (), annular, axial seals () between the outer support rings () and a circumferentially extending inner support ring () located between the annular, axial seals (). The outer support rings (), seals (), and circumferentially extending inner support ring () are located within a space between an outer tube () and an inner tube () that is telescopically disposed within the outer tube (). Seals () and () are oriented in opposite directions. Specifically, the opening of seal () is facing in a first direction and the opening of seal () is facing in a second direction that is opposite the first direction. This configuration enables the high-pressure bi-directional sealing system to handle pressure in both directions.

High pressure bi-directional sealing system

In one embodiment, the invention is directed to a high-pressure bi-directional sealing system having circumferentially extending outer support rings (), annular, axial seals () between the outer support rings () and a circumferentially extending inner support ring () located between the annular, axial seals (). The outer support rings (), seals (), and circumferentially extending inner support ring () are located within a space between an outer tube () and an inner tube () that is telescopically disposed within the outer tube (). High-pressure bi-directional sealing system

A sealing ring () includes in a diametrical cross-section a body section (), angularly spaced sealing legs () and () that extend from the body section () and angularly spaced sealing legs () and () that also extend from the body section (). Each sealing leg () extends to a beveled end (), respectively. Beveled ends () form a seal with a surface when sealing ring () is subjected to compressive forces. Sealing legs () and () are coplanar. Sealing legs () and () are coplanar. A first centering leg () extends from the body section () and is between sealing legs () and (). A second centering leg () extends from the body section () and is between sealing legs () and (). The first and second centering legs () and () are coplanar.

The outer support rings (), the seals (), the inner support rings () and the redundant seal () are located within a space between an outer tube () and an inner tube () that is telescopically disposed within the outer tube (). The seals () are oriented in opposite directions. Specifically, the opening of the seal () is facing in a first direction and the opening of the seal () is facing in a second direction that is opposite the first direction. This configuration enables the high-pressure bi-directional sealing system to handle pressure in both directions.
