An orthopedic fastener has a head and a shank. The shank has a leading end portion adjacent a distal tip and a trailing end portion adjacent a head. An intermediate portion is positioned between the leading and trailing end portions. At the intermediate portion, the shank increases in diameter. The leading end portion has a first thread which includes one or more self-tapping cutting grooves extending adjacent the distal tip and through a plurality of the first threads. The intermediate portion has second threads extending toward the head from the leading end portion. The second threads of the intermediate portion are larger in outer diameter than the first threads in the leading end portion. The intermediate portion has one or more cutting grooves traversing at each of a leading transition at the leading end portion and at a trailing transition.

Orthopedic fastener

An improved joint fusion screw for transiliac fixation has a screw head and extending therefrom an elongate hollow shaft. The hollow shaft has an externally threaded end portion extending to a tip end and a non-externally threaded shank portion having a plurality of window openings. At or near the tip end is a start of a thread with a bone cutting flute. The bone cutting flute has a cutting edge on a circumferential exterior of the threaded tip to cut bone and directs the cut bone internally into a bone receiving opening in the hollow shaft directly in front of the cutting flute. The cutting edge lies at the start of the thread extending radially above the bone receiving opening at least partially overhanging the opening configured to cut bone.

Sacroiliac screw

A bone anchor locking device for receiving a bone anchor having a shank and an enlarged head, the device has a bone anchor, a dome and a conical split washer. The receiving portion has a base extending radially outward and inwardly to a wall. The dome has a center aperture sized to pass a bone anchor. The split washer has an inner conical surface sloped to slide and expand against at least a portion of the base on insertion of a bone anchor to allow a maximum diameter of a head of a bone anchor to pass and thereafter the split washer retracts overlying the maximum diameter of the head to prevent a bone anchor from backing out.

Bone anchor locking device

A spinal implant revision device has a revision connector and a tulip member. The revision connector is configured for attachment to a pre-existing rod in a patient. The revision connector has a slotted opening configured to receive a first or a pre-existing rod. The tulip member is pivotally connected to the revision connector and movable in angularity within predetermined ranges in a first plane. This first plane is parallel to a rod to which the revision connector is attached. A second plane which is non-parallel to that first plane allows a second or new rod to be received in the tulip and allows the second rod to pivot relative to the first rod.

Spinal implant revision device

An expandable implant device () for insertion between two vertebrae () is disclosed. The device () has an upper body (), a lower body () and an external retainer band (). The external retainer band () holds the upper body () and lower body () and has an inner surface having a plurality or set of upper ratchet teeth (U) sloped for allowing upward movement and a plurality or set of lower ratchet teeth (L) for allowing downward movement. The ratchet teeth () of the upper body () are mated or fitted to the upper teeth () of the retainer band () and the ratchet teeth () of the lower body () are mated or fitted to the lower ratchet teeth () of the retainer band (). The height of the device () is increased by upward movement of the upper body () and downward movement of the lower body ().

Expandable spinal implant

A modular head pedicle screw assembly has a bone screw, a tulip, a locking split ring and a saddle. The locking split ring is internal of the tulip positioned in a recess of an inner surface of the tulip. The saddle has a proximal end for engaging a rod and a distal end for receiving the bone screw. The saddle has an exterior surface positioned between the ends. The outer surface is sized to move axially inside the tulip. The saddle expands the locking split ring in an initial pre-loaded position and upon insertion of the tulip over the bone screw, the saddle moves proximally disengaging the locking split ring simultaneously causing the locking split ring to relax to an unexpanded condition while providing tactile and audible feedback to the surgeon and locking the bone screw into the tulip.

An orthopedic fastener () has a head () and a shank (). The shank () extends from the head () to a distal tip (). The shank () has a leading end () adjacent the distal tip () and a trailing end () adjacent the head (). An intermediate transition () is positioned between the leading () and trailing ends (). The leading end () has first threads () with one or more self-tapping cutting grooves () extending adjacent the distal tip () and through a plurality of the first threads (). The trailing end () has a second thread () extending toward the head () from the intermediate transition (). The intermediate transition () has one or more second cutting grooves () extending from at least a first thread () in the intermediate transition () through at least one of said second threads () to initiate tapping of the second threads () into cortical bone. The first and second cutting grooves () in combination with the threads () form threads in the bone to hold the fastener ().

An improved artificial disc has a superior and inferior member. The superior member has an upper body portion and a flange portion for positioning and attachment to an upper vertebral body. The inferior member has a lower body portion and a flange portion for positioning and attachment to a lower vertebral body. The upper body portion and the lower body portions, when positioned in a disc space between the upper and lower vertebral bodies and affixed to a respective vertebral body at the flange portion, are independently movable relative to the other along complimentary bearing surfaces on each of the superior and inferior members. The complimentary bearing surfaces are self-aligned by a magnetic attraction force generated by at least one first permanent magnet in either the inferior or superior member.

Artificial disc

An improved joint fusion screw for transiliac fixation has an elongate hollow shaft. The hollow shaft has an externally threaded end portion extending to a tip end and a non-externally threaded shank portion having openings. The tip end has at least two bone cutting flutes at the bottom of the shaft. Each bone cutting flute has a cutting edge on a circumferential exterior of the threaded tip to cut bone and direct the cut bone internally into the hollow shaft toward the shank.
