An adjustable reclining chair having zero wall clearance has a frame and an adjustable support platform with a plurality of articulated support sections pivotally mounted with respect to one another for relative angular adjustment. An actuator means for effecting co-ordinated movement of said support sections to reconfigure the chair between a seated position and a sleeping position in which the articulated supporting sections lie in a substantially horizontal plane (H). One of the articulated support sections is a seat support inclined relative to the horizontal plane when the chair is in the seated position and substantially in the horizontal plane when the chair is in the sleeping position.

Adjustable chair

A drive mechanism for an article of adjustable furniture, the drive mechanism having support sections, the support sections including a first support section and a second support section, an actuator mechanism, and at least one connecting mechanism, the at least one connecting mechanism includes a first arm pivotally connected to the first support section, and a second arm pivotally connected to the second support section, the first arm being pivotally connected to the second arm, in which the actuator mechanism is drivingly connected to the second support section to effect concertina-like movement between the first arm and the second arm to move the second support section relative to the first support section.

Drive mechanism

An adjustable furniture such as a recliner chair or adjustable bed comprising a base, an intermediate support and a back support. Both the intermediate support and the back support are guided for movement relative to the base by a second guide means while the base moves along a first guide means. The first guide means include at least one guide associated with one of the base and intermediate support and at least one follower associated with the other of the base and intermediate support. The second guide means includes at least one guide associated with one of the base support and the back support and at least one follower associated with the other of the base support and the back support.

Adjustable furniture

The invention provides an article of adjustable furniture (), preferably an adjustable chair or bed, comprising a floor standing base section (), adjustable seat (), backrest () and headrest () sections and actuator means () for moving the backrest and headrest sections. The seat section is movably mounted with respect to the base section. The backrest is movably mounted with respect to the seat section and the headrest is movably mounted with respect to the backrest section. The actuator means includes a single actuator () for co-ordinated movement of the adjustable backrest and headrest sections for selectively altering the configuration of the article of furniture. The actuator has a first range of movement for moving the headrest with respect to the backrest, and a second range of movement for moving the backrest with respect to the seat section to provide a recliner function. The invention also provides an article of adjustable furniture comprising a backrest () and an adjustable headrest () pivotally mounted with respect to the backrest, actuator means () for moving the headrest between raised and lowered positions, and guide means arranged between the headrest and the backrest for rotating the headrest with respect to the backrest as it moves between said raised and lowered positions. The guide means includes first () and second () guides, each associated with one of the backrest and the headrest and having at least one follower () associated with the other of the backrest and headrest. The first and second guides are inclined with respect to each other such that a turning moment is generated on the headrest when the headrest is raised or lowered.

A power lift-recliner chair has a base, seat and backrest sections and actuator for moving the seat and backrest sections. The seat is pivotally mounted with respect to the base section and the backrest section is pivotally mounted with respect to the seat section. A guide is associated with one of the base and the seat sections and at least one follower is associated with the other of the base and the seat sections. The guide is arcuate for relative pivoting with respect to the base about a pivot axis located at the center of curvature of the guide. The base section includes a pair of side panels on lateral sides of the chair. The seat includes a pair of side members, adjacent the side panels, which carry the guide or follower associated with the seat section.

Lift-recliner chair

A lift-recliner chair includes a base section, movable seat and backrest sections and a powered actuator for relative moving the seat and backrest sections. The seat section is pivotally mounted with respect to the base section and the backrest is pivotally mounted with respect to the seat section. The base and seat sections each have a pair of side panels arranged substantially parallel with respect to each other on both sides of the chair with the actuator means enclosed in the interior region of the chair in all adjustment positions of the chair. The base and seat sections are arranged telescopically and moveable respect to the base section. The actuator has a first range of movement for moving the backrest with respect to the seat section and a second range of movement for moving the seat section and backrest with respect to the base.

Described is adjustable furniture comprising a first furniture component (), a second furniture component () movable, in use relative to the first furniture component () and supported by a guide arrangement comprising a guide () associated with one of the first and second components and at least one follower () associated with the other of the first and second components and movable along the guide ().

A novel article of adjustable bed is disclosed. The adjustable bed comprises at least two body-support portions and a base support for supporting the body support portions. The body support portions are mounted with respect to the base to allow angular adjustment of their relative positions to alter the configuration of the bed. Actuators are provided for angularly moving one or more of the body-support portions to effect angular adjustment of the bed. A load-bearing member projects from one of the moveable body-support portios and is supported by a bearing means arranged to run on a curved support such that each moveable body-support portion is pivotally mounted with respect to the base about a respective pivot axis defined by the center of curvature of the respective curved support. The pivot axis of the movable body-support portion is positioned above the base in a plane offset from the top edge thereof.

Lift-recliner chair and method thereof

A novel article of adjustable bed is disclosed. The adjustable bed comprises at least two body-support portions and a base support for supporting the body support portions. The body support portions are mounted with respect to the base to allow angular adjustment of their relative positions to alter the configuration of the bed. Actuators are provided for angularly moving one or more of the body-support portions to effect angular adjustment of the bed. A load-bearing member projects from one of the moveable body-support portions and is supported by a bearing means arranged to run on a curved support such that each moveable body-support portion is pivotally mounted with respect to the base about a respective pivot axis defined by the center of curvature of the respective curved support. The pivot axis of the movable body-support portion is positioned above the base in a plane offset from the top edge thereof.

A lift-recliner chair includes a base portion including a load bearing structural support frame having a pair of upstanding rigid side panels. The chair also includes a seat portion pivotally connected to and at least partially supported by the side panels. Moreover, the chair includes a back portion pivotally connected to the seat portion and an actuator assembly for moving the seat portion with respect to the base portion and the back portion with respect to the seat portion for altering the configuration of the chair. The actuator assembly is enclosed, at least partially, by the side panels.

Powered furniture

A lift-recliner chair includes a base portion, a seat portion pivotally connected to the base portion, and a back portion pivotally connected to the seat portion. The chair further includes an actuator assembly for altering the configuration of the chair including a first actuator for moving the seat portion with respect to the base portion and second actuator for moving the back portion with respect to the seat portion. The actuator assembly is substantially enclosed on an underside of the chair, the first actuator is fixed in relation to the base portion, and the second actuator is fixed in relation to the seat portion.

A lift-recliner chair includes a base portion and a seat portion pivotally connected to the base portion about a first pivot axis. The chair also includes a back portion pivotally connected to the seat portion about a second pivot axis and an actuator assembly for moving the seat portion with respect to the base and back portions with respect to the seat portion to alter the chair configuration. The base portion includes a pair of substantially vertical side panels and a rear panel extending between the side panels. The seat portion includes a seat frame having a pair of substantially vertical side panels arranged substantially parallel with and adjacent to the respective side panels of the base portion and a curved rear panel extending between the side panels of the base portion. The center of curvature of the curved rear panel is substantially coincident with the first pivot axis.
