This invention relates to tufted floorcovering articles, including carpet tiles and broadloom carpet. In particular, this invention relates to tufted floorcovering articles made from the family of polymers known as polyester. Specifically, this invention relates to tufted carpet tile products made from polyester. The polyester carpet tiles meet commercial performance specifications and are fully end-of-life recyclable.

Recyclable single polymer floorcovering article

A planar surface covering with an outer leather layer, a stabilization layer secured to the outer leather layer by an adhesive, and a tension layer secured to the stabilization layer. The stabilization layer has a fibrous stabilization material with stabilization fibers oriented in at least two planar directions of the stabilization layer. The tension layer has a fibrous tension material with tension fibers oriented in at least two planar directions of the tension layer. The tension fibers melt at a lower temperature than the stabilization fibers, and the adhesive melts at a lower temperature than the tension fibers. In one version, the fibrous stabilization material of the stabilization layer has a thickness and fiber characteristics that create cushion attributes in the stabilization layer. In another version, the fibrous tension material of the tension layer has a thickness and fiber characteristics that create cushion attributes in the tension layer.

Range-dyed fabrics that possess excellent hand characteristics and simultaneously exhibit substantially nondirectional appearances are provided. Such a combination permits the production and utilization of an extremely comfortable apparel fabric that can be attached to any other similar type of fabric to form a target apparel article without the time-consuming need to align such component fabrics to ensure an overall aesthetic appearance is met for the target apparel article. In general, such a fabric is produced through the initial immobilization of individual fibers within target fabrics and subsequent treatment through abrasion, sanding, or sueding of at least a portion of the target fabric. Such a procedure produces a fabric of short pile height and desirable hand. Upon range-dyeing the target fabric exhibits the extra benefit of nondirectional surface characteristics. The ability to produce such specific fabrics without the need for jet-dyeing thus provides a significant cost advantage to the manufacturer and consumer.

Method of producing non-directional range-dyed face finished fabrics

A fabric having good wrinkle resistance and a soft hand is described. A process for producing the fabric is also described. The process involves applying a softener to one side of the fabric and applying a wrinkle-reducing resin to the opposite side of the fabric using a foaming application method, such that the respective finishes are concentrated on the surface to which they were applied. Preferably, the softener is applied to the face of the fabric and the resin chemistry is applied to the back of the fabric. The resulting fabrics have hand characteristics comparable or superior to those of pure finished fabrics, while having wrinkle-resisting characteristics of typical resin-treated fabrics.

A process for improving the colorfastness of dyed thermoplastic textile materials is described. The process involves heatsetting the materials to a temperature which minimizes the amount of semi-crystalline regions, dyeing the material and subjecting it to a reductive clear. The process can be used on a variety of textile materials including fibers, yarns and fabrics. The process is particularly effective in achieving high colorfastness on microdenier products, even when the product is dyed a dark shade. The materials also retain good strength and flexibility characteristics.

A device for transporting a container includes a frame and a boom coupled to the frame for maintaining a container in an upright position during movement of the device. The process involves heatsetting a textile material, then applying a polysiloxane/catalyst combination to the heatset material. The textile material is then dried at low temperature, thereby resulting in a material having good colorfastness and shade. The process can be used to process fibers, yarns or fabrics, and is particularly useful in the processing of microdenier fibers.
