Efficient removal of mercury from the exhaust gases of an industrial process or combustion process can be achieved using an adsorbent that can be regenerated by a simple and efficient method. The mercury is contacted with a sorbent material, the sorbent material being hydrogen mordenite or hydrogen clinoptilolite, for adsorbing mercury and causing the mercury to react with the sorbent material to produce mercury-laden sorbent material. The mercury-laden sorbent material can be heated to a temperature of at least about 400&#xb0; C. so as to remove mercury from the mercury-laden sorbent material and to regenerate the sorbent material to allow reusing of the sorbent material for mercury removal.

Method of removing mercury from exhaust gases

A process is provided for continuously decomposing ozone in the presence of water or water vapor by contacting the ozone containing gas with a zeolite, such as mordenite, dealuminized mordenite, zeolite Y or zeolite 13 X, at a temperature at which water or water vapor is not sorbed by the zeolite, such as 128 to 175.degree. C.

Method for the continuous destruction of ozone

A method is disclosed for decomposing methylene iodide, including the following steps: providing a hydrophobic sorbent zeolite, exposing the zeolite to methylene iodide in the presence of water or water vapor, so that the methylene iodide is adsorbed on the water, heating the zeolite to a first temperature of at least 100.degree. to decompose the methylene iodide, and heating the zeolite to a second temperature of at least 400.degree. to regenerate its sorbent characteristics.

Method for the destruction of methylene iodide

A process for removing the sulfur oxides from a gas stream by sorbing the sulfur oxide gases in a zeolite and subsequently purging the previously-sorbed sulfur oxide gases by exposing the zeolite to water or water vapor, which is preferentially sorbed on the zeolite. The zeolite is then regenerated by desorbing the water or water vapor from the zeolite. A gas stream having a reduced volume and an increased sulfur oxide gas concentration is isolated and directed to sulfur oxide removal and processing apparatuses.

Process for removing sulfur oxides from a gas stream

Mordenite, a synthetic zeolite, is produced by reaction of particulate volcanic glasses with limited amounts of strongly basic aqueous solutions at elevated temperature and autogenic pressure for approximately one day.
