Methods and systems for detecting and quantifying film forming amines in water systems are described. Water containing a film forming amine is combined with a fluorescent dye, the pH of the water is reduced, and then the fluorescence signal of the fluorescent dye is measured. The fluorescence signal is indicative of the amount of film forming amine in the water, and can be used to quantify the amount of film forming amine and control the amount of film forming amine that is introduced into the water system.

Methods for detecting film-forming amines in water

A flue gas desulfurization (FGD) system in which a buffering additive feed directly adds a buffering additive containing acetic acid to either the FGD sump or a stream of the system that is downstream of the sump. In a method for performing flue gas desulfurization, the buffering additive, containing acetic acid, is added to either the sump or the overflow. That is, the buffering additive is added to the FGD system separately from the alkaline feed slurry, which contains lime or limestone.

A method for inhibiting corrosion of a corrodible metal surface that contacts water in a water system is provided. The method may include introducing into the water a treatment composition including an ex-situ halogenated triazole compound in an amount sufficient for inhibiting corrosion. A method of measuring a concentration of the ex-situ halogenated triazole compound in water in a water system is also provided. The method may include inducing the halogenated triazole compound to fluoresce and measuring an intensity of the fluorescence emitted from the water to determine the concentration of the halogenated triazole compound in the water. The concentration of the halogenated triazole can be monitored and controlled. The concentration of the halogenated triazole can be adjusted to a desired level based on the measured fluorescence value.

Corrosion inhibition for aqueous systems using a halogenated triazole

Disclosed are methods and apparatus for improving heat transfer of recirculating fluids within a system by introducing a ferrofluid in which iron oxide nanoparticles are suspended in a carrier fluid that is, in turn, added to a working fluid for increasing the heat capacity of the working fluid. The ferrofluid suspension can be prepared ex-situ and metered into the working fluid from a separate reservoir or may be prepared in-situ as needed through the use of an inline reactor. The ferrofluid can be introduced with other water treatment additives which are compatible with the colloidal suspension and monitored directly and/or indirectly for controlling the heat capacity performance of the system.

Method and apparatus for improving heat transfer in industrial water systems with ferrofluids

Disclosed is a concentrated cooling water additive that is substantially non-corrosive within a pH range of 2-12 and contains polymeric dispersant(s) and aromatic azole(s) that exhibits improved stability, possibly as a result of the interaction of the hydrophobic groups in the dispersant polymer and the aromatic azole(s). This improved stability allows for both reduced corrosivity of the formula and reduced manufacturing costs. Benefits of the disclosed formulations include improved safety for handling and shipment, more concentrated formulations available in liquid form, reduced shipping costs and storage space, reduced heat of neutralization during product manufacture, reduced costs of manufacture due to removal of need for caustic or acid addition and reduced environmental compliance costs associated with washing and waste handling step.
