A rotating transducing head drum that mounts a number of transducer heads for sweeping rotation across the surface of a record medium. The head mounts are either of the bimorph, i.e., laterally displaceable leaf type, or of a non-displaceable leaf type simulating the displaceable type; in either case the mounts are factory secured in substantially identical shoes and in precise predetermined dimensional relation to radially, axially and circumferentially facing gauge surfaces of the shoes. Mating gauge surfaces are factory formed on the drum. Thus, the heads with their shoes are interchangeable in the field without the need for field adjustments.

A rotating transducing head drum, upon each revolution, carries of plurality N&gt;3 of peripherally mounted transducer heads in K&gt;2 successive sets each of P&gt;1 successive sweeps across the surface of a record medium; a plurality of at least P rotating transformer halves is coupled to said heads, each head in a set to a different transformer half; and a plurality P of stationary transformer halves is provided to transmit and receive signals from the rotating halves. The number of rotating transformer halves can be as great as N, but still only P stationary halves are required.

Rotating transducing head assembly

A rotating transducing head drum mounts a number of transducer heads for sweeping rotation across the surface of a record medium. The drum includes a shaft or other cylindrical gauge footing at the center, and each head is carried on a mounting element having at least two angled surfaces tangentially engaging the footing at circumferentially spaced generatrices thereof so as to be precisely located in a radial direction. Circumferential and axial locating means are also provided.
