The present invention further provides a substantially non-aqueous agricultural pesticide concentrate formulation of a non-ionic surfactant and a amphipathic graft copolymer composition in admixture with a water-insoluble organic agricultural pesticide which concentrate formulation can be easily diluted with water to form non-settling, freeze-thaw stable formulations. The present invention further provides methods for the use of water-diluted agricultural pesticide concentrate formulations of the above non-ionic surfactant concentrate formulations in the kill and control of agricultural pest.

The present invention provides amphipathic graft copolymers which comprises a hydrophobic polymer portion to which is grafted at least one amphipathic polymer portion containing pH independent ionic groups. The amphipathic graft copolymers can be prepared employing a procedure which comprises polymerizing at least two hydrophobic monomers, wherein at least one of the monomers is a graftable monomer, and at least one hydrophilic monomer, including at least one anionic and/or cationic pH independent ionic monomer, or a post reactive non-ionic monomer that can be converted to a pH independent ionic derivative, in a reaction medium and recovering the thus prepared amphipathic graft copolymer. Stable, substantially non-aqueous solution compositions of said amphipathic graft copolymer containing less than 15 percent by weight water are also provided. The present invention is also useful in preparing a substantially non-aqueous concentrate formulation of a non-ionic surfactant and an amphipathic graft copolymer composition in admixture with a water insoluble organic pesticide which concentrate formulation can be easily diluted with water to form non-settling, freeze-thaw stable formulations.

Stable emulsions of water-insoluble organic pesticides are formed by mixing the pesticide with an aqueous dispersion of a graft copolymer comprising a reactive polymeric surfactant base polymer and a nonionic hydrophobic grafted composition. The graft copolymer spontaneously absorbs organic pesticides with low water solubility upon simple mixing. The resulting product is much more stable to coalescence than emulsions made with conventional or polymeric surfactants. Emulsifiable organic based concentrates, having a continuous oil phase, which are formed from admixtures of pesticidally active water-insoluble organic pesticides with graft copolymers can be diluted with or in water, thus, inverting the continuous oil phase to stable water based oil-in-water emulsions of the active pesticide.

Stable, aqueous emulsion formulations of water-insoluble organic pesticides are formed from a mixture of (1) a water-insoluble organic pesticide, (2) a water based structured particle latex containing nonionic particles to which is bound a layer containing stabilizing pH independent ionic groups chemically bound at or near the surface of the polymer particles, and optionally a cosolvent and/or a cosurfactant for the pesticide. A novel composite membrane and methods of making the membrane are described. The discriminating layer of the membrane is prepared by reaction of a reactive cationic compound group with a compound bearing a nucleophilic moiety. At least one of the reactants bears an average of two or more reactive groups. The reaction product contains covalent bonds formed via charge eliminating reactions. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the nucleophilic group is anionic and a coacervate is formed initially on a microporous substrate. The resulting membrane may be useful for reverse osmosis, gas or ultrafiltration separations.

Epoxy resins contain a discontinuous phase dispersed therein, of grafted rubber particles having an insoluble rubber core and having a grafted shell containing a functionalized compound such as that provided by polymerized glycidyl methacrylate, which is reactive under curing conditions with a functionality of the epoxy resin phase. The dispersions are stable and are useful as curable coatings, and for providing toughened resins for structural applications.

A selectively stable latex has discrete polymer particles which have present as bound charges both a pH independent charge (such as sulfonium) and a pH dependent charge of opposite polarity of the pH independent charge (such as carboxyl), wherein the two charges are present in such proportion that the latex is stable in at least one pH range and controllably unstable in at least one pH range. The latexes of the invention are extremely useful in the preparation of fibrous composites such as highly-filled composite paper and fine printing paper.
