A piezoelectric sensor assembly is for an electrical system. The electrical system includes a sensor attachment assembly and a number of electrical conductors. The sensor attachment assembly includes a sensor housing and a fastening member for fastening the sensor housing to a corresponding one of the electrical conductors. The piezoelectric sensor assembly includes a processor enclosed by the sensor housing, a piezoelectric sensor element, a wiring assembly electrically connecting the piezoelectric sensor element to the processor, an insulating member coupled to the piezoelectric sensor element and being structured to extend outwardly from the sensor housing to engage the corresponding one of the electrical conductors, and a mounting enclosure structured to mount the piezoelectric sensor element and the insulating member to the sensor housing.

A method of detecting and locating a micro-interface abnormality within an electrical system having a plurality of conductors and a plurality of electrical connections includes identifying a subset of the plurality of electrical connections by detecting an acoustic signal within the electrical system and analyzing the detected acoustic signal and determining that the detected acoustic signal is indicative of an electrical fault, measuring a contact resistance of each of the subset of the plurality of electrical connections, and identifying at least one of the subset of the plurality of electrical connection points as having a micro-interface abnormality based on the measured contact resistances.

The movable electrode is caused to first make physical contact with the stationary electrode, and then is moved away from the stationary electrode until an arc is detected. Additionally, the movable electrode may be moved towards and away from the stationary electrode according to a test profile to control the magnitude of the randomness of the arc.

A test apparatus tests an arc fault circuit breaker with an arc fault generator having an input and an output. The test apparatus includes a first electrical connector electrically connected to the load side of an arc fault circuit interrupter. A logic circuit receives the switch signals and the anti-trap signal and controls the drive assembly for the window in response thereto. The switch assembly includes a switch to override the anti-trap sensor for closing the window even when an obstruction is sensed during the closing operation.

A control circuit drives the coil of a contactor in response to a control voltage being applied. The control circuit includes a power supply that produces a regulated output voltage from the control voltage. The onset of the regulated output voltage starts a timer which controls the width of pulses produced by a PWM controller. The pulses control a transistor that applies the control voltage to the coil. Initially the pulses cause a high current to flow through the coil to close the contactor and after an interval of time the timer signals the PWM controller to shorten the pulses which applies lesser current to the coil to keep the contacts closed. A flyback circuit provides a relatively low reverse voltage drop path in parallel with the coil to maintain the electromagnetic field during the periods between the pulses. When the control voltage is removed to open the contactor, the flyback circuit provides a high reverse voltage drop path to promptly dampen the coil current.

A power controller with overload protection having an alternating current source (AC) connected through power lines (L1, L2) and a pair of power switching devices (FET1, FET2) and a current sensor resistance shunt (SH) in series to a load (LD). A line-derived control power supply circuit (LDS) is connected through one of the power switching devices (FET1) to the lower line (L1, L2) such that the control power supply current does not flow through the shunt (SH) or the load (LD). Close and open commands are applied from a control switch (CSW) through a threshold detector (DT) and a logic circuit (LG1) to operate a latch (LCH) that turns the power switching devices (FET1, FET2) on and off under the clocking control of a zero voltage detector (ZVD) and a zero current detector (ZCD) and the gating control of a minimum current circuit (MCC). Opto-isolated indicators (SS, ST) indicate trip conditions and loss of line voltage conditions as well as whether the load current is above or below a minimum current value which is a current level adequate for operation of the control system.
