The invention is a ratcheting open ended wrench comprising a main body having an elongate primary handle portion and an upper stationary jaw element, a secondary handle opposed to the primary handle portion and having a binding surface at the top being pivotally attached to the main body, a tertiary handle pivotally attached to the main body having a gear element cooperating with a geared end of a connecting rod, the opposing end pivotally and slidably fixed to a lower movable jaw assembly, the lower movable jaw assembly being spring biased against the upper stationary jaw and positioned within a main body guide slot so that the secondary handle binding surface contacts the lower jaw assembly and activation of the secondary handle clamps the lower movable jaw assembly relative to the upper stationary jaw. Activation of the tertiary handle counteracts the lower movable jaw spring bias to open the jaws.

Ratcheting adjustable wrench

A tool system with a battery pack and a device that is configured to be selectively coupled to the battery pack. The battery pack has first, second and third pack terminals. The device has a battery mount with a body that defines a well and first and second device terminals. The body defines a well into which the battery pack is removably received. The first and second device terminals extend outwardly from a proximal portion of the battery mount and engage the first and second pack terminals when the battery pack is fully inserted into the well. At least one of the first and second pack terminals and the first and second device terminals is a male terminal that is received into a corresponding one of the first and second pack terminals and the first and second device terminals. A longitudinal axis of each of the first, second and third pack terminals is arranged parallel to a longitudinal axis of the battery pack.

Battery pack for cordless device

A battery pack (FIG. ) comprises an elongated cylindrical, metal casing , a plurality of cells in casing and three coaxial pack terminals . For enhanced convenience, pack terminals are electrically connectable in a cordless device regardless of the angular orientation of the pack about casing axis . To reduce cost and increase durability, pack has no welded connections and will permit high current discharge rates. Cells are electrically connected but are mechanically disconnected. A spring engages cell and biases cells tightly together in compression to form good, low resistance electrical contact between cells , casing base cap and top . To provide a pack with two output voltages, the third pack terminal has a polarity (relative to first pack terminal ) the same as second pack terminal and is electrically connected to the cell can terminal of forward cell , thereby electrically by-passing cell

When connecting two elements that are moveable with respect to one another, someamount of clearance, i.e., spacing between the elements, is included to minimize friction between the elements. The present invention is directed to setting the clearance within a desired range, regardless of manufacturing tolerances of the two elements. In particular, the present invention is directed to power cutting tools wherein it is necessary to set the clearance between one or more reciprocating blades and a blade support member.

System, apparatus, and method for blade clearance tuning

A trimming tool includes a selectable blade attachment for effecting a conversion between a string trimming mode and a blade trimming mode without requiring disassembly of the unit. The assembly includes a locking mechanism selectively engageable with a pivoting trimming blade that pivots between a retracted position and an extended position by centrifugal force. In one embodiment, the locking mechanism is reciprocated between the locked position and the unlocked position based on a rotation direction of the motor. The locking mechanism itself may also be reciprocated by centrifugal force. A spool lock, which is also positioned by centrifugal force, disables automatic string feeding in the blade trimming mode. The trimming tool may also be provided with a blower function incorporating a blower attachment readily attachable as a trimming guard of the trimming tool or a blower assembly integrated into the tool components.

Combination string and blade trimmer with auxiliary blower function

A trimming tool includes a selectable blade attachment for effecting a conversion between a string trimming mode and a blade trimming mode without requiring disassembly of the unit. The assembly includes a locking mechanism ( ) selectively engageable with a pivoting trimming blade ( ) that pivots between a retracted position and an extended position by centrifugal force. A power tool includes a motor, an arbor driven by the motor, a rotatable cutting tool disposed on the arbor and having a rotational axis, the cutting tool further having a hole, first and second clamps connected to the arbor and clamping the blade, wherein one of the cutting tool and at least one of the first and second clamps and arbor have a first drive surface for contacting a second drive surface on the other of the cutting tool and the at least one of the first and second clamps and arbor, the second drive surface being movable between a first position contacting the first drive surface and a second position bypassing the first drive surface. The second drive surface is resiliently connected to the other of the cutting tool and the at least one of the first and second clamps and arbor. At least one metal strip connects the second drive surface to the other of the blade and the at least one of the first and second clamps and arbor.

Clutch mechanism

When connecting two elements that are moveable with respect to one another, some amount of clearance, i.e., spacing between the elements, is included to minimize friction between the elements. The present invention is directed to setting the clearance within a desired range, regardless of manufacturing tolerances of the two elements. In particular, the present invention is directed to power cutting tools wherein it is necessary to set the clearance between one or more reciprocating blades and a blade support member.

A chuck is formed with a generally cylindrical body formed with a bore at a forward end thereof. A fixed clamp segment and a movable clamp segment are located in radial opposition in the bore . A pair of ribs are formed on the fixed segment and extend radially inward. A single rib is formed on the movable segment and extends radially inward. The ribs and cooperate to clamp a shank therebetween in a clamping mode. A sleeve is positioned about the body and is movable axially relative thereto. A camming section formed on an interior wall of the sleeve is captured between a head of a pin and a detent ring to latch the sleeve in an unclamped mode. When the shank is inserted into the bore , the forward end of the shank engages the pin to move the head against the camming section which, in turn, moves the section past the detent ring. In this manner, the sleeve is unlatched and moved forward to compress a plurality of rollers against the fixed segment and the movable segment to place the sleeve in a clamped mode, whereby the shank is clamped.

Power drivable chuck

A rotary device has a releasable tool holder. A spindle with two ends has one end adapted to secure to a rotary device and the other includes a bore to receive a tool. A mechanism to retain and release the tool from the spindle bore is coupled with the spindle adjacent the bore end. At least two unlike retention members to apply a force on the tool in the bore are adjacent the bore. A sleeve surrounds the bore end of the spindle as well as the at least two unlike retention members. The sleeve has a common surface to apply a force on the at least two unlike retention members such that when the sleeve is axially moved along the spindle, the force is varied with respect to the position of the surface on the retention member. This force maintains the tool in the bore or enables the tool to be removed from the bore. A biasing member maintains the sleeve in a retention position on the spindle.

Removable tool holder

A removable chuck has a chuck member for holding a drill bit. Also, a mechanism is coupled with the chuck body to retain the chuck body to a drill spindle. The retention mechanism, in a first position, retains the chuck on the drill spindle and in a second position the chuck is enabled to be removed from the spindle.

A router includes a tool holder which has a spindle with a bore to receive a router tool bit. A sleeve surrounds the spindle. A locking mechanism retains the router bit in the bore. The locking mechanism includes at least one rolling member in contact with the sleeve and which extends into the bore. The rolling member locks the router bit in the tool holder. A biasing member retains the sleeve in a locked position. The locking mechanism includes an activation member remotely positioned from the sleeve for moving the sleeve between the locked and unlocked position.

Router keyless chuck

A liner for a power tool holder has a wall which defines an interior and an exterior periphery. The interior periphery is sized to receive a tool shaft and the exterior periphery is sized to fit within a tool holder. The liner protects the tool shafts from marring, nicking or the like while being frictionally held by the tool holder.
