A system for removing flanged containers from a packaging machine includes a pair of conveyor chains having horizontally spaced longitudinally movable working reaches, a plurality of yieldable clips secured to each of said chains and having container engaging edges disposed between the chains, movable structure for engaging filled and sealed containers and for moving such containers upwardly between the chains and into engagement with at least one clip on each of the chains to cause the clips to flex upwardly and to allow the container flange to move above the clips whereby the container is supported by the clips for movement out of the packaging machine.

Conveying system for removing containers from a packaging machine

The invention relates to a locking mechanism for locking together overlapping base panels of a wrap-around type carton. The mechanism comprises a locking element (50) pivotally mounted on carton conveying means (10) for movement therewith and including a locking finger (60) for insertion into said base panels to form a lock therebetween, a rotatable cam disc (62) for cooperation with a first follower leg (56) provided by the locking element for pivoting the locking finger into a locking position, and a rotatable cam disc (66) for cooperation with a second follower leg (58) provided by the locking element for pivoting the locking finger into a retracted position. The cam discs (62,66) are located at spaced locations along the path of movement of the locking element for interference therewith such that said second follower leg (58) automatically is brought into a position for engagement with its respective cam disc (66) during cooperation between the first follower leg (56) and its respective cam disc (62) and vice versa, whereby the locking element is pivoted sequentially into its locking and retracted positions.

Locking mechanism for wrap-around cartons

A machine for applying an article carrier (C) having apertures (19,23,24) therein to a plurality of bottles to cause the neck of each bottle to be enveloped by a carrier aperture includes conveyor means (4) for moving a group of bottles arranged in side by side relationship and in at least one row into a loading station, vertically reciprocable plunger means (55,59) disposed above the loading station, at least one applicator member (60) pivotally mounted on said plunger means (55,59), a carrier feeder arm (61) pivotally mounted on the plunger means and arranged to engage and withdraw a carrier from a stationary hopper (10) and to deposit the carrier in said applicator member (60) so that downward movement of said plunger means causes the carrier apertures to envelope the necks of bottles disposed at said loading station together with cam means (80,81) arranged to swing said applicator member about its pivotal mounting following application of a carrier to a group of bottles so as to cause said applicator member to disengage the carrier.

Machine for applying an article carrier to a plurality of bottles

Articles to be packaged are fed through a packaging machine on conveyor means and are arranged in groups which are controlled by suitable spacer elements movably mounted on an endless feed element and each including an article engaging pusher projection for imparting movement to a group of preceding articles together with an article engaging restraining projection movable into the path of movement of the articles so as to restrain the movement of the immediately succeeding group thereby to control and precisely to determine the position of the group of articles in order to insure cooperative and synchronous cooperation with other machine operations.

Article handling means for a packaging machine

A packaging machine includes means for withdrawing insert blanks from a hopper and for prebreaking the parts which are detachably held in the planes of the blank and for subsequently manipulating each blank into partially set-up condition and for moving the partially set-up blank downwardly and around the necks of a group of bottles in such manner as to fold end tabs foldably joined to the partition tabs into flat face contacting relationship with the associated partition tabs by engagement of the end tabs with the necks of the associated bottles. According to one feature of the disclosure, the bottles are fed into positions wherein they are arranged in groups into which the inserts are lowered and the groups are controlled by suitable spacer elements movably mounted on an endless feed element each of which includes an article engaging pusher projection for imparting movement to a group of preceding articles together with an article engaging restraining projection which moves into the path of articles and restrains the movement of a succeeding group so as to control and precisely determine the position of the group of articles in order to insure cooperative and synchronous cooperation with means for securing the insert into a group of articles in such manner that two plys of material constitute separating partition means between adjacent articles.

Packaging machine

A machine withdraws collapsed sleeve type containers in sequence from a hopper and sets up each collapsed blank into a condition for receiving bottles through the open ends thereof and includes an oscillatable loading arm disposed adjacent an open end of the set-up sleeve for engaging articles and for moving those articles into the open end of the sleeve together with movable end flap folding means for engaging end flaps disposed on one end edge of a trailing side wall together with a fixed plow which engages end flaps foldably joined to an end edge of a leading side wall to manipulate those flaps into closed condition following loading, and fixed top and bottom end flap folding plows engage the top and bottom end flaps in sequence to fold those flaps into closed condition following operation of glue applying means which applies glue to the outer surface of the upper end flap immediately prior to engagement of that surface by the inner surface of the lower end flap.
