One exemplary embodiment can be a method of modifying an alkylation unit to increase capacity. The method may include combining a first alkylation zone with a second alkylation zone. Generally, the first alkylation zone includes a first settler having a height and a width. Typically, the width is greater than the height. In addition, the second alkylation zone may have a second settler having a height and a width. Usually, the height is greater than the width.

Alkylation unit and method of modifying

One exemplary embodiment can be a method for altering an operation of an alkylation unit during a process upset. The method may include blocking an outlet of a settler to a separation zone, and recycling at least a portion of a hydrocarbon stream to the separation zone to prevent an uncontrolled pressure rise in one or more distillation columns during shutdown of an alkylation reactor.

Method for altering an operation of an alkylation unit

A new valve is designed for the transport of solids using a motive fluid. The valve includes an inlet conduit for carrying solids, where the solids are fed through gravity. The solids are carried by fluid transport out an outlet where the outlet conduit has a smaller diameter than the inlet conduit carrying the solids. The conduit should be sufficiently smaller to prevent instability in the flow. A second inlet provides the source of motive fluid to drive the transport of solids.

One exemplary embodiment can be an acid alkylation system. The system can include a cooler-reactor and a settler. The settler can have a height and a width. Usually, the height exceeds the width. Generally, the cooler-reactor receives a feed of at least one of a stream including an olefin and a stream including an isobutane. Typically, at least a portion of one of the streams is bypassed around the cooler-reactor to the settler to control the temperature within the settler.

In a normal butane isomerization process where the isomerization effluent () is fractionated in a deisobutanizer () operated such that a lower boiling fraction () is provided containing at least 80 mass-% isobutane and a higher boiling fraction () containing normal butane and at least 10 mass-% isobutane. The higher boiling fraction () is contacted with a selectively permeable membrane () to provide a permeate () containing normal butane-containing and a retentate () containing at least 80 mass-% isobutane. An alkylating agent alkylates an alkylation substrate in a solid catalyst alkylation process in which an alkylation reactor produces a reaction effluent and a catalyst regeneration zone produces a hydrogen-containing regeneration effluent. The alkylation effluent passes to an alkylate fractionation zone, while the regeneration effluent passes to a hydrogen fractionation zone to remove hydrogen and produce a hydrogen-depleted stream that passes to the alkylate fractionation zone. The process recycles hydrogen, and can recycle halogen-containing species as well, within the process while preventing admixture of hydrogen with the alkylating agent. This invention is particularly applicable to alkylation processes that use an olefinic alkylating agent.

Solid catalyst alkylation process with regeneration section and hydrogen fractionation zone

A process for the production of motor fuel alkylate by reacting an alkene hydrocarbon, an alkane hydrocarbon and a hydrogen halide with a solid alkylation catalyst disposed in swing beds. The spent solid alkylation catalyst is regenerated in a highly integrated flow scheme associated with the alkylate recovery.
