A fishing pole electric bite indicating system which comprises a rigid mount in the form of an elongated channel member extending coaxially along a portion of the pole in the vicinity of the reel and adhesively attached to the pole by means, for example, of silicone rubber, and a stud extending outwardly from the channel member; together with an electrical unit detachably mounted on the channel member by a screw extending through the housing of the electrical unit and into the stud. The electrical unit includes a resilient tension arm which extends out from the housing of the unit and which engages the fishing line associated with the pole. Any increased tension on the line due to a bite causes the tension arm to bend and complete an electric circuit to an electrically energized alarm unit such as a minature piezo alarm unit which, together with a battery, may be mounted in the housing. The tension arm is attached to a shaft within the unit. A slip clutch prevents rotation of the shaft when the tension arm responds to a bite. However, the shaft may be manually turned within the clutch to adjust the normal angular position of the tension arm.

A valve module is provided which finds particular utility in a domestic solar water heater system. The solar water heater system includes a collector, a storage tank, and a circulating pump. The system also includes a solid state electronic control module which automatically stops the circulating pump when the temperature of the water in the collector drops below the temperature of the water in the storage system, so that water is circulated through the system only when solar heat is available to heat the water to a temperature above the temperature of the water already stored in the storage tank. The valve module, upon a signal from the control module, causes the water to drain out of the collector when the temperature of the water in the collector falls to freezing temperatures so as to prevent damage to the collector. The control module also serves to stop the pump, to close the valve module, and to drain the collector when the temperature of the water in the storage tank reaches a predetermined maximum temperature.

Solar heat system

A domestic solar water heater system is provided which includes a collector, a storage tank, and a circulating pump. The system also includes a solid state electronic control module which automatically stops the circulating pump when the temperature of the water in the collector drops below the temperature of the water in the storage system, so that water is circulated through the system only when solar heat is available to heat the water to a temperature above the temperature of the water already stored in the storage tank. The system also includes a valve module which, upon a signal from the control module, causes the water to drain out of the collector when the temperature of the water in the collector falls to freezing temperatures so as to prevent damage to the collector. The control module also serves to stop the pump, to close the valve module, and to drain the collector when the temperature of the water in the storage tank reaches a predetermined maximum temperature.

A normally-open pilot-operated valve assembly is provided which closes when a solenoid-operated pilot valve is energized. The pilot valve is open when the solenoid is de-energized to remove fluid pressure from a chamber in the valve housing causing the main valve to open. When the solenoid is energized, the pilot valve closes causing hydraulic pressure to build up in the valve chamber so that the main valve is closed. The solenoid-operated valve includes a plunger which extends into a discharge port, the plunger having a spherical member attached to its distal end which is drawn inwardly against a seat in the pilot discharge port to close the port when the pilot solenoid is energized.

A pilot type diaphragm valve assembly is provided which includes a solenoid-operated pilot valve which may be opened to remove fluid pressure from a chamber in the valve housing causing the main valve to open, and which may be closed to cause a buildup of hydraulic pressure in the valve housing causing the main valve to close. The solenoid-operated pilot valve includes an outlet which may be coupled to a reservoir at atmospheric pressure, or to any other suitable receptacle, to make the pressure differential across the diaphragm within the valve independent of pressure differentials in the fluid flow through the valve so as to obviate instability at low flow rates.
