A mobile pumping unit including a housing enclosing an engine driven pump. The housing defines an air inlet chamber substantially isolated from an engine compartment. Air drawn into the inlet chamber by an engine driven blower is conveyed along a flow path and absorbs waste heat from the engine and is discharged to the ambient from an exit chamber. The inlet and exit chambers each include acoustic material for controlling noise in the air flow path. A conventional exhaust silencer is disposed in the exit chamber so that noise radiated from its surfaces is also controlled. A ventilation flow path for the engine compartment is established by bleeding off a portion of said cooling air and discharging it through a secondary outlet formed in the housing. A hot air outlet for the cooling air is formed by a self-opening door hingedly mounted to the housing which is automatically opened by the air pressure in the exit chamber when the pump unit is started. The door is operatively connected to an exhaust pipe cover.

Mobile pump apparatus

A seal cartridge for providing a fluid seal between a rotating shaft and a housing such as found in a centrifugal pump. The seal cartridge includes rotating and non-rotating seal portions which prior to installation are maintained in alignment and carried by a tubular or sleeve-like support member so that the cartridge forms a unitary assembly. The non-rotating seal portion includes a seal ring seat that is connected to the support sleeve by a frangible element. During an installation process, after the seal ring seat reaches its installed position, the frangible element fractures and releases the non-rotating portion of seal from the support member thus enabling the rotating portion of the seal to rotate relative to the non-rotating portion. The support sleeve can be rigidly clamped to the shaft by a conventional pump impeller.

Face type seal assembly

A face-type shaft seal characterized by a protective boot surrounding the rotating seal assembly inside of the coil spring, and a viscous material filling the boot cavity to prevent liquid and abrasive materials from entering the boot when the seal is used in a centrifugal pump.

A waste material distribution system including a holding tank, a self-priming centrifugal pump located above the liquid level in the tank having its suction inlet connected to a vertical drop pipe, a cutter plate having flow ports therethrough at the mouth of the drop pipe, rotatable cutter blades below the plate, power means for rotating the blades at speeds independent of the pump impeller in order to disintegrate solids contained in the waste material, and paddle blades below the cutter blades for establishing vortex circulation below the mouth of the drop pipe and converting solid or semi-solid waste material to a pumpable slurry.
