A system may receive a first list of users of a provider network. For each of the first list of users, the system may obtain data pertaining to the user's categories of interest from a social media system; infer video programs based on the data; infer a list of one or more video channels based on the video programs; score the one or more video channels; rank the list of one or more video channels based on the scores; and recommend the ranked list of one or more video channels.

Video programming and suggestion system

A local router for a home network pairs with a mobile device via a local network connection. The local router is also connected to a wide area network. The local router receives, from the mobile device and over the local network connection, configuration settings for a backup path for the wide area network. The backup path includes the local network connection and a mobile broadband connection using the mobile device. The local router detects an interruption with the local router's connection to the managed wide area network and forwards, based on the detecting, critical traffic from the home network via the backup path.

Back-up path for in-home diagnostics and other communications

A device receives a request for an advertisement from a set-top box (STB) displaying television content in a high definition format, and provides, to the STB, the advertisement in a standard definition format, where the high definition format includes a resolution higher than a resolution of the standard definition format. The device also determines whether the STB converts the advertisement from the standard definition format to the high definition format. When the STB fails to convert the advertisement from the standard definition format to the high definition format, the device generates a first error code and instructs the STB to continue to display the television content, without interruption, in the high definition format.

Converting standard definition television advertisements to high definition format

A system predicts digital subscriber line (DSL) performance on an existing telephone loop. The system obtains a topological description of the existing telephone loop () and identifies a loop equivalent to the existing telephone loop from the topological description of the existing telephone loop (). The system then determines DSL performance for the equivalent loop (). From the DSL performance for the equivalent loop, the system predicts DSL performance for the existing telephone loop ().

Systems and methods for performing DSL loop qualification

A method of encoding speech includes a limited search of a tree-code excitation codebook with a closed loop gain calculation for each test path under consideration. The gain calculation occurs when minimizing an error distance measurement between a synthetic signal defined by each test path being considered and the appropriate speech signal by optimizing a scaling factor of the synthetic signal. The encoding method achieves a significant reduction in computational complexity with minimal loss of performance.

Method for reducing the search complexity in analysis-by-synthesis coding

A comb filter minimizes framing noise resulting from block encoding of speech. The comb filter has both pitch and coefficients adapted to the speech data. Block boundaries may be centered on filter segments of a fixed duration.

Method for enhancing the quality of coded speech

In a speech coding system, scale factors are generated and encoded for each of a plurality of subbands of a Fourier transform spectrum of speech. Based on those scale factors, the spectrum is equalized. Coefficients of a limited number of subbands determined by the scale factors are encoded. The number of bits used to encode each coefficient of each transmitted subband is determined by the scale factor for each subband. At the receiver, coefficients of subbands which are not transmitted are approximated by means of a list replication technique.
