Systems and techniques for oscillator control are described. A fixed or controlled oscillator feeds a plurality of evenly spaced tap points multiplexed to an output by a multiplexer. A phase change control circuit changes the multiplexer to a new tap point one phase tap at a time, with the change being made when an oscillator clock edge will not be repeated to an output. The phase change control circuit determines when to change the multiplexer setting based on the overflow of an accumulator, which is continuously summing an increment value. The sign of the accumulator increment value determines the direction of the multiplexor updates. The resulting output signal from the multiplexor is a new output frequency related to the oscillator frequency and the accumulator increment value. With a plurality of multiplexer controlled outputs and corresponding phase change control circuits, a plurality of output frequencies can be created from one oscillator.

Digital frequency synthesis

A method and apparatus for performing time synchronization is provided. The method/apparatus includes, at a radio subsystem: receiving, from a digital subsystem, a first signal via the link, where the link not dedicated to timing synchronization; determining a time difference between the first signal and a second signal; converting the time difference to a time error, sending, via the link, the time error or time difference to the digital subsystem. The method further includes, at the digital subsystem, inputting the time error, received from the radio subsystem, to a phased locked loop (PLL) in order to adjust an oscillator frequency so as to reduce the amount of the time error and thus synchronizing the radio access network with the second signal received at the radio subsystem, without the need for an additional connection between the digital and radio subsystems.

Method and apparatus for performing timing synchronization in a wireless communication system

An apparatus for providing oscillator frequency stability is disclosed. The apparatus includes an internally ovenized oscillator module having an oscillator and an inner heater to maintain the oscillator at a first temperature during operation. The apparatus also includes a thermally conductive cover for forming a first compartment to contain the internally ovenized oscillator module along with multiple heaters. The heaters are in thermal communication with the thermally conductive cover and the substrate to form an oven to keep the internally ovenized oscillator module at a stable second temperature during operation. In addition, the apparatus includes a thermally insulative cover for forming a second compartment to contain the first compartment.

Apparatus for providing oscillator frequency stability

A method for managing data congestion and/or contention occurring at a point-of-traffic concentration. The method includes reading a time value associated with a data packet, the time value being representative of when the data packet entered the network. The time value is within the header of the data packet. The age of the data packet is determined from the time value. The data packet is discarded if the age of the data packet is above a threshold value. Alternatively, a first time value determined from a time reference is associated with a data packet at a first node. The data packet is transmitted to a second node and the first time value is compared to a second time value to provide a result. The second time value is also determined from the time reference. The data packet is discarded if the result exceeds a threshold value.

Method and apparatus for managing congestion in a data communication network

In accordance with the preferred embodiments of the present invention, a method () and an apparatus (e.g., base station ()) for enabling a communication resource reset are described herein. In particular, a controller (e.g., a base station controller ()) and a communication resource (e.g., a base station ()) are in communication via a communication link (). The method () provides a physical layer element () that is operatively coupled to the communication link (). Further, the method () monitors a link parameter associated with the communication link () via the physical layer element (). The method () restores the base station () to an initial state in response to a trigger event associated with the link parameter so that the base station controller () is operable to reestablish communication with the base station ().

Method and apparatus for enabling a communication resource reset

A redundant clock system and communications cards for utilizing the system, the system including a clock source for providing a reference signal for communication cards; an alternate clock source, coupled to the clock source, for providing an alternate reference signal for the communication cards; each of the communication cards including a clock generator, referenced to one of the reference signals for providing clock signals at frequencies corresponding to functions provided by each of the communications cards, and each of the communication cards arranged to couple to a surviving one of the reference signals when a failure of the other is detected.
