A solar distillation system includes at least one solar panel configured to reflect sunlight, and a distillation tube adjacent the at least one solar panel that is to receive a liquid to be processed into fresh water. The liquid flows through the distillation tube and is heated by the reflected sunlight. At least one supplemental distillation unit is connected to the distillation tube and has at least one curved surface to receive the reflected sunlight. The least one supplemental distillation unit includes a plurality of sprayers configured to spray the liquid onto the at least one curved surface to be further processed into fresh water.

Solar distillation system with supplemental distillation units and associated methods

A solar distillation system includes at least one solar panel to reflect sunlight, and a distillation tube adjacent the at least one solar panel. The distillation tube is to receive brine to be processed into fresh water. The brine is to flow through the distillation tube and is heated by the reflected sunlight. A first supplemental distillation unit is connected to a first end of the distillation tube and has a curved surface perpendicular to the distillation tube to receive the reflected sunlight. A second supplemental distillation unit is connected to a second end of the distillation tube and has a curved surface perpendicular to the distillation tube to receive the reflected sunlight. The first and second supplemental distillation units each include sprayers to spray brine onto the respective curved surfaces to be further processed into fresh water.

Thermoplastic molding process and apparatus

A solar distillation system includes solar panels, and receivers adjacent the solar panels to receive process water to be processed to purified process water. The process water flows from a first receiver to a last receiver and is heated by reflected sunlight. Vapor tubes are coupled to the receivers, with each respective vapor tube coupled between adjacent receivers. Water vapor is generated as the process water is heated within each receiver. The water vapor flows via the respective vapor tubes between the adjacent receivers towards the last receiver. A return vapor tube is coupled to the last receiver. A distillation tube is coupled to the return vapor tube to receive the water vapor. The distillation tube extends through the receivers from the last receiver to the first receiver. As the water vapor travels through the distillation tube it changes to a liquid, with the liquid being the purified process water.

Composite polymeric articles significantly larger than the size of a compression molding press are produced by providing a plurality of expandable pillows interposed between an upper plate and the upper exterior surface of an outside the press upper mold. The upper plate has a plurality of downwardly extending paired vertical arms attached to opposite sides of the upper plate. Each vertical arm has a lower portion having a eyelet (or aperture), and each pair of vertical arms together forms an aligned pair of eyelets. When the upper and lower mold portions are pressed together, the eyelets reside below the exterior lower surface of the outside the press lower mold portion. Each eyelet is dimensioned to reversibly receive a horizontal or lateral arm that is deployed below the exterior lower surface of the outside the press lower mold portion. A plastic material is introduced onto the interior surface of the lower mold portion, which is compressed between the upper and lower mold portions via a press having a press area that does not extend out over the outside the press portions of the upper and lower mold portions. The lateral arms are extended through the paired and aligned eyelets. The plurality of expandable pillows are expanded, and the lateral arms are brought into compressive abutment with the exterior lower surface of the outside the press lower mold portion. The plastic material residing between the outside the press upper mold portion and the outside the press lower mold portion is then correspondingly compressed.

A solar energy collector system includes a base, and a parabolic trough collector carried by the base for reflecting sunlight to a longitudinal focal line. The parabolic trough collector includes a center section horizontally positioned with respect to ground, and opposing end sections adjacent the center section. The heated first and second thermoformable sheets are each drawn by reduced pressure into contour matching contact with the interior mold surfaces () of separate first and second mold portions (), so as to form separate first and second profiled thermoplastic sheets () within the separate mold portions. The first and second mold portions () are positioned towards each other (e.g., together) so as to bring into contact and fuse together contact portions () of the first and second profiled thermoplastic sheets (). Fusion between the contacted contact portions () is achieved by means of (e.g., exclusively by means of) residual heat of sheet formation residing in each of the first and second profiled thermoplastic sheets (). The present invention also relates to a mold apparatus (e.g.,) that includes a mold assembly () that further includes a first mold portion () and a second mold portion () that reside between and are rotatably attached to laterally spaced first and second longitudinal supports (). At least one mold portion is longitudinally repositionable, between the first and second longitudinal supports, relative to the other mold portion.

Method of forming a molded article from thermoformable thermoplastic sheets

The present invention relates to a method and molding system () for forming a molded plastic article by wireless control. The molding system includes a primary controller () that is adapted to engage in wireless communications with the carriage controller () of one or more self-propelled carriages (). Each carriage () includes a carriage location indicator () that determines the location of the carriage, which is transmitted substantially continuously to the carriage controller (), and then communicated substantially continuously and wirelessly from the carriage controller to the primary controller (). The primary controller () wirelessly communicates position directives (e.g., a polymer introduction station position directive) to each carriage controller (), which correspondingly provides operational position instructions to each carriage's respective propulsion system (), so as to re-position at least one carriage. The primary controller also provides directives to other secondary controllers in the molding system, depending on the status of, and in particular the location of the various carriages within, the molding system. For example, with a carriage () positioned in the polymer introduction station (), the primary controller () communicates one or more polymer introduction directives to a polymer introduction controller (), which then provides operational polymer introduction instructions to a polymer introduction apparatus (), such as an extruder, thus resulting in the introduction of a polymer composition into contact with the interior mold surface () of the mold (), and accordingly formation of a molded article.

Method of forming a molded article by wireless control

The present invention provides a method and apparatae used to prepare a shaped and molded multilayered article formed from a heated thermoplastic sheet and a first plastic sheet that are driven into melt-bonding contact by a stream of gas. The method involves applying a stream of gas () against the first surface () of a first plastic sheet () so as to drive a second surface () of the first plastic sheet against and into contact with the first surface () of a heated thermoplastic sheet () as the heated thermoplastic sheet is formed (e.g., extends downstream from the sheet slotof a sheet die). The second surface of the first plastic sheet is defined by a thermoplastic layer. The heated thermoplastic sheet has a temperature that is sufficient to melt-bond the thermoplastic layer defining the second surface of the first plastic sheet and the first surface of the heated thermoplastic sheet together, thereby resulting in the continuous formation of a heated multilayered thermoplastic sheet () having a thermoformable temperature. The second surface () of the heated thermoformable multilayered thermoplastic sheet is brought into contour matching contact with the interior surface () of a first mold portion (), and cooled thereby resulting in formation of the shaped multilayered article. A sheet molding apparatus (), a sheet guide apparatus (), and fluid management structures () (e.g., storm/waste water management chambers) prepared thereby, are also provided with regard to the present invention.

Method and apparatus for forming a shaped multilayered molded article

A sheet molding apparatus includes at least one molding surface having a plurality of perforations and an accompanying vacuum mechanism for controllably drawing reduced pressure through the perforations. The sheet molding apparatus includes further at least one sheet retainer with a clamping capability attached to a frame surrounding at least a portion of the perimeter edge of the molding surface. The sheet molding apparatus with the sheet retainer and its clamping capability can be used for rapidly and accurately positioning thermoformable thermoplastic sheets to match the molding surfaces in producing molded articles.

Apparatus of preparing a molded article

A sheet molding apparatus including at least one molding surface with a plurality of perforations, at least one sheet retainer with a plurality of vacuum perforations, and an accompanying vacuum mechanism for controllably drawing reduced pressure through the perforations. The sheet molding apparatus can be used for rapidly and accurately positioning thermoformable thermoplastic sheets to match the molding surfaces in producing molded articles.

A system and method for forming an article from thermoplastic material and fiber. The method includes heating thermoplastic material to form a molten thermoplastic material for blending with the fiber. The molten thermoplastic material is blended with the fibers to form a molten composite material having a concentration of fiber by weight. The molten composite material may then be extruded through dynamic dies to deliver discrete controlled material that is gravitated onto a lower portion of a mold. The lower portion of the mold may be moved in space and time while receiving the flow of composite material to deposit a predetermined quantity of molten composite material thereon conforming to mold cavities of the lower and an upper portion of the mold. The upper portion of the mold may be pressed against the predetermined quantity of molten composite material and closing on the lower portion of the mold to form the article.
