A composition includes a thermoplastic fluoropolymer having vinylidene fluoride units in an amount of at least 30 mole percent and tetrafluoroethylene units in an amount of at least 5 mole percent. The thermoplastic fluoropolymer is free of hexafluoropropylene units or comprises less than 5 mole percent hexafluoropropylene units. The composition further includes at least one of a non-fluorinated, thermoplastic polymer as a major component of the composition or a polymer processing additive synergist. A method of reducing melt defects during the extrusion of a polymer is also provided. Use of the thermoplastic fluoropolymer as a polymer processing additive is also provided.

Compositions including copolymers of vinylidene fluoride and tetrafluoroethylene and methods of using the same

A polymer composition includes a non-fluorinated, thermoplastic polymer and a minor amount of a fluoropolymer combined with the non-fluorinated polymer. A polymer processing additive composition that includes a fluoropolymer and a polymer processing additive synergist is also disclosed. The fluoropolymer includes diads represented by formula &#x2014;CF2-CF(R)&#x2014;CH(R')&#x2014;CF(R&#x2033;)&#x2014; in a range from about 23 mole percent to about 50 mole percent. Each R is independently &#x2014;CF, &#x2014;Rf, or &#x2014;ORf, each R&#x2032; and R&#x2033; are independently H, F, CF, or &#x2014;Rf, and each Rf is independently a perfluoroalkyl group having from 1 to 12 carbon atoms and optionally interrupted by one or more &#x2014;O&#x2014; groups. A method of reducing melt defects during the extrusion of a polymer is also disclosed.

Fluoropolymer processing additive, compositions, and methods

A fluoropolymer composition comprising a fluoropolymer with a particle size distribution having a ratio of the mode to D95 of 0.75 or greater and wherein when the fluoropolymer is a copolymer consisting of interpolymerized units derived from tetrafluoroethylene and perfluoro(propyl vinyl) ether, the fluoropolymer has less than 60 unstable endgroups per million carbon atoms; coated articles comprising the fluoropolymer; and methods for making the same.

Fluoropolymer compositions, coated articles, and method of making the same

A formulation is provided which is capable of performing as a liner layer between a rocket motor casing and the propellant grain disposed within the interior of the rocket motor casing. The composition produces relatively little smoke during the operation of the rocket motor and is capable of securely bonding a wide range of conventional propellants to a wide range of conventional casings. In one preferred formulation, the liner consists of from from about 50% to about 75% oxygen containing polymer; from about 3% to about 15% curing agent; from about 5% to about 50% filler and from about 0.01% to about 0.5% cure catalyst.

Low smoke rocket motor liner compositions

A composition consisting essentially of a polyphosphazene binder having the following repeating units: ##STR1## wherein n is from about 20 to about 50,000, A is selected from --O-- and --NH--, and R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are independently selected from alkyl having from one to about 20 carbon atoms, aryl having from 6 to about 14 carbon atoms, alkaryl having from 7 to about 30 carbon atoms, any of the preceding moieties substituted with halogen, hydroxyl, alkoxy, aryloxy, or nitro groups, or any of the preceding moieties linked by ether or amine linkages. Combined with an organic fiber filler, this material provides an erosion resistant insulation composition for temporarily protecting the interior of a rocket motor combustion chamber from thermal damage while the rocket is firing. Provided as a barrier coating or layer between the propellant grain and other structures within a rocket motor, this material prevents migration of plasticizers, nitrate esters, and other fluid or mobile ingredients from the propellant grain.
