An air compressor comprising an air intake unit for importing air at atmospheric pressure. A cylinder means for compressing air; a storage tank; a first airline extending between the air intake unit and the cylinder means, the first airline being configured to convey air from the air intake unit into the cylinder means; a second airline extending between the cylinder means and the storage tank, the second airline being configured to convey compressed air from the cylinder means to the storage tank; a motor connected to the cylinder means, configured for driving the cylinder means; a valve inserted into the first airline, the valve being configured to be adjustable between a closed condition and an open condition.

A capillary wick running through the reservoir so that at least a portion of the capillary wick along the longitudinal axis is in direct contact with the liquid within the reservoir. This allows liquid in the reservoir to convey to a tip with minimal flow resistance. As such, a sufficient amount of liquid is provided to the tip, even when the writing instrument is used in quick strokes or for a long duration of time. In a writing position, a capillary storage is above the reservoir so that the capillary storage remains substantially dry without the head pressure affecting the capillary storage. The present invention is also directed to providing a porous divider wall between a reservoir that is below the storage, but without a capillary wick. Here, the porous divider wall is used to regulate air flow into the reservoir. Without the capillary wick, the unit costs and the manufacturing costs are substantially reduced.

One feature of the present invention is to provide a capillary hole through a storage container that is holding the liquid so that as the underpressure within the container increases, atmospheric air may enter through the capillary hole to hold the underpressure at a predetermined level. One of the advantages with the present invention is that air enters through the container wall and not through the conveying line. That is, the diameter of the capillary hole formed in the container may be more precisely controlled than trying to control the largest pore size in the conveying line. This means that the performance of the writing instrument may be held to a tighter tolerance because the underpressure in the container may be more accurately controlled.

A fluid dispensing utensil, such as a writing utensil, includes a container (,) defining a first storage area (,) for storing fluid, a second storage area (,) and an opening therebetween, a tip (,), a capillary conveying line (,) extending from the opening through at least a portion of the second storage area to the tip, and a capillary storage (,) associated with the second storage area and in direct contact with the conveying line. A porous shroud (,) may also be provided. Even still, the capillary conveying line and the capillary storage may be a unitary fibrous structure where the fibers are aligned along the longitudinal axis defined by the tip and the opening.
