A device is capable of connecting to both a WLAN and a cellular data network. Preference is given to using the WLAN. However, prior to connecting to the WLAN, the cellular data network is used to connect to a remote portal from which the device receives parameters to connect to the WLAN. The portal initiates prompts to receive the WLAN parameters that it provides to the device. Upon successfully connecting to the portal the device deactivates the cellular data connection. Upon there being network path errors on the preferred network connection, the device is capable of activating the secondary cellular data connection to the portal to report errors.

A system can include at least one auxiliary device comprising a plurality of user interface components responsive to user inputs. A host device can include a link interface configured to communicate with each auxiliary device via a communication link. The host device also includes configuration logic to automatically configure each auxiliary device to implement at least one of a plurality of virtual interactive pages, which is assigned based on the number of auxiliary devices connected to the host device. Each of the virtual interactive pages is programmed to associate a discrete set of actions or events with specified user interface components of the respective auxiliary device to which the virtual interactive page is assigned. The host device can execute a selected one of the actions or events in response to activation of a corresponding one of the user interface components.

A method for scheduling a meeting using an email client that is part of an email system includes receiving a request at the email client to schedule the meeting. The request may include an indication of the resources that are to be provided by a conferencing system for the meeting. The method also includes communicating the request to a conference bridge that is part of the conferencing system and receiving from the conference bridge an access code associated with the meeting. The method also includes appending the access code to a meeting invitation associated with the meeting and providing the meeting invitation to an email server that is part of the email system. The method also includes sending the meeting invitation to users invited to participate in the meeting.

IP telephony network using a configuration map for organizing sites

A system and method for managing an IP telephony network that uses a configuration map for organizing sites in a tree-like hierarchy. The system is capable of managing the addition, removal and movement of IP telephony elements within an IP telephony network and locating services and IP telephony elements within the IP telephony network in an efficient manner.

A method can include detecting at a mobile device controller a communication from a sender to a recipient. One of the sender or the recipient is a mobile device that is registered to operate with a first identity in a mobile network of a service provider and is registered to operate with a second identity in a private network. The method can include determining which identity of the mobile device to employ in response to detecting the communication based on information associated with the communication. The communication can be directed to the recipient using the determined identity.

One embodiment includes a non-transitory computer readable medium having instructions executable by a processor to implement a method. The method includes receiving user configuration data for a network device, the configuration system being coupled to a service network. The method also includes storing device configuration data in a configuration database coupled to the service network, the device configuration data being based on the user configuration data and service network data. The method also includes receiving a configuration request at the configuration system from the network device in response to the network device being unconfigured and connected in a user network. The method further includes transmitting the device configuration data from the configuration database to the network device in response to the configuration request.

A system and method for providing PBX functionality to a mobile phone includes a private branch exchange having a mobile phone proxy. A call control path is established between the mobile phone and a private branch exchange. The call control path is a direct trunk line, a mobile voice network, an IP data network, a mobile data network or a 4G network. The private branch exchange receives a request to perform the PBX function. The private branch exchange uses the call control path to perform the PBX function.

A button box provides additional keys that can be used in conjunction with a telephone. In one embodiment, a button box is configured by associating it with a telephone and by programming its keys. When a key on the button box is activated, a key press event is sent from the button box to the associated phone. The phone treats the key press event as if a key on the phone itself had been activated and forwards the event to the voice switch appliance associated with the phone. (Alternatively, the key press event is sent from the button box directly to a voice switch appliance.) The button box's user interface is controlled by a voice switch appliance.

Phone-independent key expansion module

An Internet Protocol (IP) phone transmits on a network, an IP packet comprising a dynamically-assigned IP address. A computer associated with the network uses the dynamically-assigned IP address in the packet to identify a specific site to which the IP phone belongs and/or a specific local area network (LAN) to which the IP phone is connected. Then, data to be used to provide telephony service to the phone is recorded in a memory. In some embodiments, the computer associates the IP phone with a dialing plan unique to the specific site, wherein the dialing plan includes an area code to be used by the IP phone.

Provisioning an internet protocol (IP) phone

A phone is provisioned automatically when a user couples the phone to a network, with minimal (or preferably zero) involvement on part of an administrator to activate the phone. In several embodiments of the invention, when the user couples the phone to a network, a computer associated with the network automatically checks to see if the phone was previously provisioned. If not previously provisioned, the computer automatically records the existence of the phone in a memory of a telephone exchange that is to thereafter provide service to the phone. At this stage a phone number is not yet associated with the phone. In some embodiments, the just-described acts, namely checking and recording of existence are performed without any involvement on part of the administrator. The telephone exchange provides basic service to the new phone as soon as it detects existence of the phone (in its memory). Thereafter, in certain embodiments, the user uses that particular phone to identify himself/herself (and/or an extension number) and in response the computer stores the extension number in the telephone exchange's memory, thereby to enable the phone to receive calls at that extension number. Such automatic provisioning eliminates the need for an administrator to provision the phone.
