An automatic secondary disconnect mechanism for an electrical switchgear apparatus having an enclosure and a removable circuit device is disclosed. According to a preferred embodiment, the automatic secondary disconnect mechanism comprises a guide rail mounted to the enclosure so as to extend substantially parallel to the racking motion of the circuit device; a slide member slidably mounted on the guide rail; apparatus for locking the slide member in place on the guide rail at a point corresponding to a test position of the circuit device; and apparatus for releasing the slide member when the circuit device reaches the test position from the disconnect position. One of a pair of mating secondary contact members is coupled to the slide member, while the other mating contact member is coupled to the circuit device. The mating secondary contact members automatically engage as the circuit breaker moves from the disconnect position to the test position, remain engaged and move together via the slide member as the circuit breaker moves between the test and connect positions, and automatically disengage as the circuit breaker moves past the test position toward the disconnect position.

Automated secondary disconnect mechanism for electrical switchgear

A transformer having an integral cabinet with an apparatus for hinging and clamping the cover of the cabinet onto its base is provided. The hinge is formed by an L-shaped member extending from a lip surrounding a planar top formed in the cover. A flange having rearward and downward extending portions extends from the rear wall of the cabinet base. The hinge engages a slot formed in the downward extending portion of the flange. The distance from the hinge to the cover top is less than the distance from the slot to the upper edge of the rear wall on which the cover top rests. Thus, rotation of the cover into the closed position with the hinge engaged causes elastic deformation of the hinge, thereby creating a spring force which clamps the cover onto the base. Elastic deformation in the flange imparts addition clamping force. Sufficient clearance is provided for this elastic deformation by either sloping the rearward extending portion of the flange or sloping the planar top of the cover.

An electrical transformer having an integral cabinet with an apparatus for latching and locking the doors of the cabinet. The apparatus is comprised of a three point latch system. The first and second latch points are vertical latch rods which engage sills in the cabinet. The third latch point is a latch plate which rotates with a shaft extending through the first door and to which a handle is attached. In the secured position, the latch plate rotates behind a flange extending from an interior wall, thereby preventing the door from being pulled open. The internal wall divides the cabinet into low and high voltage compartments and forms a structural portion of the cabinet. A bolt extends through the first door, the second door, the latch plate and the flange, thereby preventing the doors from being pulled open and preventing rotation of the handle. A cylinder attached to the first door surrounds the head of the bolt and prevents access thereto. The shackle of a padlock ends through the handle and the cylinder, thereby preventing rotation of the handle and further restricting access to the bolt.

A mounting bracket for a conductor plug assembly for electrical apparatus which assembly includes a conductor plug, a plug support base, and an assembly bolt having a shaft and bolt head, the bracket being characterized by a channel shaped member including a sheet-metal plate having a slot extending from one end of the plate and dividing the plate into a pair of planar portions each of which includes an inclined runner along one of the opposite sides of the slot, each runner being similarly offset from the plane of the plate and tapered from said one end, the opposite ends of the runners being integral with the plate portions and being elongated, elastically deflectable members whereby the plug assembly is releasably, slidably mounted on the bracket by moving the bolt shaft along the slot from said open end with the bolt head sliding along the adjacent runners so as to slide the base into tight-fitting engagement with the spaced plate portions.
