A structure for extreme thermal cycling has a support element that supports a vessel primarily by bearing and frictional forces rather than by welds. The support element has a bearing portion that tapers inwardly beneath a knuckle that separates a cylindrical section of the vessel from a sloped lower section. The bearing portion of the support element follows that slope, providing an extended area of contact between the support element and the vessel. An annular section of the support element can be heated and expanded before placing it around the cylindrical section of the vessel to provide pre-stressing. If required, a strap may extend downwardly from the vessel over an upper edge of the support element.

Structure for extreme thermal cycling

An archery target is disclosed that is formed from multiple front layers formed from a woven material having laterally displaceable strands to permit penetration of an arrowhead, multiple backing layers formed from material which resists penetration of an arrowhead and a plurality of aligned pockets formed between the front and backing layers. Stuffing material such as raw cotton is compressibly forced into each of the pockets resists lateral displacement of the stuffing material upon penetration of an arrowhead and causes the stuffing material to be compressed in front of the arrowhead to effectively stop the arrow.

Projectile target

An apparatus is disclosed for sensing the impact of a projectile. The apparatus includes a target which is a bladder having a predetermined normal volume which is reduced in size upon impact by a projectile. The bladder has an outlet in communication with atmospheric air for providing an escape for a pulse of fluid from the bladder when the bladder volume is reduced in response to impact by a projectile. Resilient foam is disposed within the bladder urging it toward its normal volume after impact by a projectile. A sensor is connected to the bladder for sensing a pulse of air escaping from the bladder.
